Hmm, thanks Dave. It looks like I might have a mixed-version problem between 2.16 & 2.18. (maybe it's supposed to be that way??) My qt version is: libqt4-4.5.1-47.1. If my yast2 packages are mixed, this somehow happened when I updated yast with factory-oss & factory kde4 repos added.

You should get the factory version of qt4, it looks like you have a build service one otherwise your yast versions match mine. I have to turn off kde4 build service repos to prevent mixed updates of kde4. I think I see where the confusion is. In ms windows if you grab the right side of the last column header you can drag it and create another blank column. I've just explored various qt4 listview type widgets and if you double click on the right border of the rightmost column header it can actually shrink to the point where you have whatever is underneath the columns showing. If you have libqt4-devel-doc and the data package installed you will find the examples at /usr/lib64/qt4/ and you can play with the various widgets and observe their actual behavior. The widget used in the factory yast2-qt-pkg doesn't respond to the mouse pointer over the right side of the right hand column header but the right hand column has infinite size and if it's contents extend too far right then the horizontal scroll bar appears. One thing you can no longer do is make the size column smaller than it's contents but who would really want to do that? I suspect that this is a feature of the qt4 widget used for the package list and if you file a bug it would have to be upstream http://www.qtsoftware.com/developer/task-tracker/ . The game's afoot! I'm on 11.0, but as long as I have the same yast and qt updated to what you are running, I don't see how that would make a difference. In my screenshots, that is the "only" way I ever get to see the size information (hidden and with the little dots ...). If I had to tell you how big the packages were with the hidden text and the dots ... I couldn't.

Any ideas why we should be seeing 2 different things?

Did you update your entire yast or just the two qt packages? My guess would be a mixed up qt4 because qt4 supplies the columns but the yast developers have customized things a little for the new tabbed version of software manager. Have a look at my screenshots in the bug report that is what qt-pkg should look like although I've had mine colored black before at some stage. Maybe post a full picture of your yast. I updated all of yast. I did a "zypper up yast2" (or zypper in -- can't recall and I have my Archlinux drive in my laptop at the moment). When I updated, it updated about 60 yast packages and now I have a nice (and very different) yast2 GUI. (I like 80% of it too, 20% still needs tweaking). Additionally zypper is fully updated (and backwards with it defaults). I'll install my openSuSE drive and get a package list, but I am 99.99% positive that I have the latest factory yast2 installed.

I don't think resolution comes into play here. I've tried on my laptop 1440x900 and on my desktop 1920x1200 and its all the same behavior. It's just a difference in the column properties that somebody coded (or God forbid set with some qt gui designer), that just needs to be fixed :p

After looking at your screenshot I've finally managed to reproduce the bug. My size column is in fact fixed to 9 characters and when the value 1014.0 KiB appears in the size column it's truncated by dots. I think this bug most probably started with the switch from KB to KiB recently and the program assuming 1024 as a Meg. Glad to know my eyes weren't playing tricks on me :p So if I understand you, it's the addition of that one little 'i' causing the problem? That extra character introduced when there was a change from KB and MB to KiB and MiB. (A change I must admit whose importance is lost on me -- I know the difference, I just can't see the relevance of knowing whether you are downloading 226.7 KB file or 226.7KiB file)

So what are the fix options? Go to 10 characters in width? Why not just make the column behave like the other 3 columns where you can just grab the right heading border and resize the thing? I'm sure the devs will make the right choice.

In fact I looked a little bit harder and your size column is limited to 8 characters but mine is limited to 9. A while ago the yast project changed to KiB etc to correctly indicate multiples of 1024 where KB indicates multiples of 1000. Your size column won't even display 100.0 KiB (9 characters) properly whereas mine only has a problem with 1000.0 KiB (10 characters). They have to enable resize of the size column somehow because if ours are different for some reason due to video resolution or something, others may even have columns limited to less than 8 characters.
