[opensuse-factory] Trouble using zypper to upgrade from 11.1 to 11.2RC
This evening I started an attempt to use zypper to upgrade from 11.1 to 11.2. I had a 11.1 system, using quite a few OBS projects and a few other external repositories. I disabled all the other repositories and updates oss, non-oss and the updates repo's to the 11.2 ones. At this point I did "zypper update zypper" in order to get a fresh zypper, which I thought would help the full update. This went away and installed 164 packages (mostly because I have OBS KDE 4.2 installed, and this update forced me to the "standard" 4.3.1 in 11.2). All good so far. So, I go on to do "zypper dup". Now zypper seemingly won't download any files! Tried deleting everything in /var/cache/zypp but that didn't help. Below is a link to some output from my failed zypper runs. Where do I go from here!? http://pastebin.ca/1648526 Cheers, John. P.S. If I use 'curl' to attempt the files that zypper is supposedly trying to download (with the -L option to allow redirects) the files download OK. -- John Beranek To generalise is to be an idiot. http://redux.org.uk/ -- William Blake

You stated in the first email that you disabled the 11.2 repo's. did you enable them before the zypper dup? Sorry, I think I let a silly typo get in there - I disabled all the extra repositories and updated my 11.1 repositories to be 11.2 ones instead. My first pastebin shows it trying to download 11.2 repository data, and here is my "zypper sl -d" output: http://pastebin.ca/1648567 Cheers, John. -- John Beranek To generalise is to be an idiot. http://redux.org.uk/ -- William Blake

For the time being try using "http://download.opensuse.org/factory-snapshot/repo/oss/" and "http://download.opensuse.org/factory-snapshot/repo/non-oss/". The update repo doesn't have any usable packages until release so don't worry about it. The repositories are still in a state of transistion for 11.2 at the moment. From his pastebin he couldn't connect with zypper ref so I provided him with the address that "Failed to download /media.1/media from http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.2/repo/oss/" resolves to. On the other hand his update of zypper went without a problem so maybe his network is down. I've had a zypper dup going overnight with "http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.2/repo/oss/" and have only had problems with missing packman packages. Perhaps he should post the output of zypper lr. Regards Dave P -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

is that a good idea, to update zypper separately? i've never done this and haven't had any problems in a long time with zypper up or ~dup.

I assure you my network isn't down - as I said in a previous email, I can fetch these files with 'curl' fine.
Perhaps he should post the output of zypper lr.
I have provided a pastebin of 'zypper sl -d' output, but here is 'zypper lr': # | Alias | Name | Enabled | Refresh --+------------------------+------------------------+---------+-------- 1 | Main Update Repository | Main Update Repository | Yes | Yes 2 | opensuse-non-oss | opensuse-non-oss | Yes | Yes 3 | opensuse-oss | opensuse-oss | Yes | Yes Cheers, John. -- John Beranek To generalise is to be an idiot. http://redux.org.uk/ -- William Blake -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I've had a look in there, as well as the extremely voluminous strace output, and don't really see anything obvious[1]. Should I post this somewhere for perusal? John. Setting: PROXY_ENABLED="no" in /etc/sysconfig/proxy has allowed zypper to download _some_ repository info. Looks like a regression in proxy determination in zypper to me! Now, however it seems that mirrors are enabled but not up-to-date. Ah, looking at the log one can see that aria2c is called with "--http-proxy=", i.e. an empty proxy. It doesn't seem to like that. This seems to be a bug in libzypp, it should ignore an empty proxy string. We'll fix that ASAP. As a workaround, please set PROXY_ENABLED to "no" in /etc/sysconfig/proxy.
