It really scared me the first time I saw it.

It made me pause briefly, but the mouse pointer gave it away. Probably not good for the less astute I suppose, but I actually like it. This assumes it's the same as the KDM background and KDE login splash, as I eradicate splashy and bootsplash from all my systems at earliest opportunity after install if I forget to taboo them in package selection. Sorry Seife and others, I like it and I'm awaiting, after seeing this Celadon artwork in KDE and gfxboot, this going finally in the lighter green (now a dark grey) in bootsplash/initrd.

I actually could not care less for artwork, as once I'm logged in my user settings are in charge and I'm never going to see it again. But this just is too similar to a broken LCD to be funny.

In the bugreport I filed (669474) I suggested to just put a label "this is artwork, your monitor is not broken" onto the bootsplash.

For me it actuylly works perfectly with all the DVD drives, I recently tried.
