[opensuse-factory] How to let gstreamer-engine show in Amarok2?
Hi, Has anybody figuered out how to let Amarok2 show more engines than only xine? (which ofcourse does not work for the sh***y reason we all know) an engine would be selectable, if it only would show up in the list below/above xine.... vlc plays, but it is much work to build a playlist, or add a song to the list. -- Enjoy your time around, Oddball (M9.) don't know if these have the backend. if not, you'll have to manually download from the 'normal' factory repo i guess. -- ys phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

convert your stuff to ogg. i did that when things did not work in factory, and while it takes slightly more space, feels better: more politically correct :) using mp3 only for shoutcast streams now. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

you mean good, bad, ugly? if it still does't work with gstreamer, maybe you do have to install the fluendo-stuff. i never tried gstreamer / mp3 without it. read somewhere that the fluendo codecs won't be used in openSUSE repos anymore because of some licensing mess-up. they're still available for free (as in beer) though: http://www.fluendo.com/shop/codecs/ -- ys phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

too have to install a hundred megs, just to play a song? well, a hundred megs here or there, with today's HDDs i don't really care.

before i found the packman factory repos, i managed to get gstreamer backend into that dialog. kept installing gstreamer related libs, including fluendo's mp3 thing (http://www.fluendo.com/shop/codecs/), and got gstteamer to play mp3 in amarok 1 & 2. (was using packman 11.1 at that time.)
(which ofcourse does not work for the sh***y reason we all know) an engine would be selectable, if it only would show up in the list below/above xine....
vlc plays, but it is much work to build a playlist, or add a song to
for me xine backend works now. plays mp3 & ogg, haven't tried any other encoding yet. and it works much more stable than gstreamer used to. the list. yes, that's why i use it only for video formats i can't get to play in kaffeine. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

What did you do to get xine to work? I also added the 11.2 pckmn, updated the xine and gstreamer fluendo is installed, but there is no decoder, because the tracks rush to the end, without any sound.... Before it was possible to select the engines, but with this new version i cann't get it going.. i _think_ the critical packages are libxine1 libxine1-codecs libxine1-pulse phonon-backend-xine don't think the w32...codecs package from packman 11.1 is required, but i still have it. might try installing that if it doesn't work with the above... -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

for gstreamer the good-bad and ugly with deps did the trick. amarok is playing now, and i allways was confident with it, now also.. xine does not yet play. thnx for the support you both .. :) -- Enjoy your time around, Oddball (M9.) For me, all I need to do was modifying Packman repo to http://ftp.skynet.be/pub/packman/suse/factory and install libxine1, libxine1-codecs and phonon-backend-xine. I removed gstreamer related packagages earlier and since today mp3 playback works.

Uninstall gstreamer was impossible about 480some.. deps..so i left it be around.. rebooted.. few times restart amarok and xine works here also now. and the nice thing is that the songs don't stop after one song, so i do not have to restart amarok after every song... -- Enjoy your time around, Oddball (M9.) told you xine is more stable than gstreamer right now. i think amarok2 is a bit buggy, too, but who cares? it's still the best audio player around, IMO. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
