[opensuse-factory] mkinitrd from Kernel:stable breaks 12.2 and below

There are massive reports from users on forum in the last days. Similar to Kernel image: /boot/vmlinuz-3.6.6-1-desktop Initrd image: /boot/initrd-3.6.6-1-desktop Kernel Modules: <not available> Could not find map /boot/System.map, please specify a correct file with -M. There was an error generating the initrd (9) mkinitrd from Kernel:stable does not work on 12.2 and below due to changed path to /sbin/get_kernel_version. Has anyone ever heard of the concept of the PATH variable? I really don't understand why we would want to hardcode paths of required tools into mkinitrd (might be necessary for tools that need to go *into* the initramfs, but not for tools that are needed to build it). -- Stefan Seyfried "If your lighter runs out of fluid or flint and stops making fire, and you can't be bothered to figure out about lighter fluid or flint, that is not Zippo's fault." -- bkw -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

The upstream pull request has this fixed, we can supersede the previous changes if we want. https://gitorious.org/opensuse/mkinitrd/merge_requests/15 Robert

OK, after sending the e-mail I decided that I should just do this and be more proactive rather than waiting for someone else..... created request id 140644 should find it's way into factory and fix all those that use mkinitrd from Base:System on "older" distros. Has this mkintrd problem now been solved and the kernel patched accordingly? If not, would someone please post an announcement when the kernel has been patched and available for use? I use the kernel from the 'standard' repo but have disabled the repo so as not to stuff my system (as my wife's system was a couple of days ago by losing the menu.lst and with no initrd :-( .) and the kernel patched accordingly?
What do you mean? It is unrelated to kernel. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
