everytime I decide to play neverball on my Thinkpad with the accelerometer as joystick, I'm overwhelmed by the amount of unofficial tp_smapi packages and really can't decide which one to take.. I feel there should be a package in the official repos... :D
To give this a little more serious sense: tp_smapi is a kernel module for accessing the HDAPS ( http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Active_Protection_System ) system in Thinkpads which can be used to park the hard-drive when the laptop is moved (or especially to protect the disk when the laptop is falling down while it's running etc). In addition to that module the hdapsd daemon is needed.
Is there any reason those two packages are not in any official repo? As long as that repo existed the module seems to have been in the :Contrib repo.
Of course I'm not suggesting that simply anyone should add this but I'm volunteering to do the work :-)
But I do need some hints where to start:
1.) Which devel repo would I submit the kernel module to? 2.) Which devel repo would I submit the daemon to?
3.) How do I correctly package kernel modules? As I said, there are a lot of packages already. This one looks fairly reasonable:
Could that be submitted as is?
