[opensuse-factory] Can't find deps req'd by 11.0 2.6.27 kernel from repositories/home:/
[I posted this to the opensuse list a week ago. It generated no useful on-topic replies, and a lot of off-topic replies.] Because https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=406035 is WONTFIX against the release it was filed under, I was forced to find a newer kernel that includes its fix. Back in December I found one at http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/ilya_41/openSUSE_11.0/i586/ . Now that location includes a newer kernel version. I tried to update to that newer version, but it requires updates to other packages: module-init-tools 3.4-56.9 perl-Bootloader 0.4.81.1 http://software.opensuse.org/search and webpin can only find me the already installed versions, not the newer ones required by the newer 2.6.27.21 kernel packages. Can someone tell me how to satisfy this dep problem? Do I just install those two packages from the 11.1 update repo even though I'm on 11.0? How does one find out the owner/contact for packages in http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/ when problems like this arise? -- "Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle." I usually go this way: Get a browser, go to your repo URL (http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/ilya_41/openSUSE_11.0/repoda... ) and then check the changelog of the package you're interested in. It should contain an email address of the user packaging it up. Sending the user an email might help in getting the issue solved generally. on the other hand in this specific case it might not help, as the user seems mainly to link other packages. So the changelog will not give you good info. But then, we can use some osc magic. From the home: path we know, the username is ilya_41, so you can issue
osc meta user ilya_41 And you'll get the email address of this user.
Hope this helps. Dominique PS: I intentionally did not answer the question regarding the actual issue due to lack of knowledge in this area. If you have the option to test this on a system without loosing anything, I would say it's worthy to try getting those packages. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

So I see. :-(

osc says "user 'ilya_41' not found" :-(

11.0 has single package kernels. 11.1 has multi package kernels. I'm not adventurous enough to try this without guidance from someone with experience. Thanks for you reply. -- "Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle." Proverbs 23:5 NIV Team OS/2 ** Reg.
