[opensuse-factory] [status report] openSUSE distribution, week 23
Hi, We released RC1 last week and presented beta3 to quite some people on linuxtag. Right now I track 6 bugs as possibly delaying 11.0, which is still quite a lot ;( 390658 - almost fixed 396444 - came in new after RC1 (Vist dualboot) 396810 - came in new after RC1 (Xen only) 394575 - came in new after RC1 (Xen only) 393030 - almost fixed 395085 - we're still not sure where it comes from exactly Quite some people on LinuxTag asked for a USB image for showing openSUSE around. So I think I'll try to create a non-installable USB image as time permits (possibly post-GA) So far I don't think we need to public RC2, but I'll publish live CDs as soon as 393030 is verified to be fixed. How about making openSUSE liveUSB by automating syslinux, adding modified initrd and copying LiveCD image as shown here : [0]. I've tried this with different size of USB disk without problem. You may have different approach for making openSUSE liveUSB, so, look at this response as another idea beside yours :-) After playing some moment with openSUSE liveUSB, I most likely encourage to add this feature into 11.0. Remember, while launching 10.3, it's a delay about a month for LiveCD iso. If LiveUSB could not deal with final release of 11.0 on June 19, it's still interesting to wait for a while. There are several other crash bugs, that better to be fixed. Bug 395021 - FireFox 3 crashes Bug 384817 - KDE KRDC 4 crashing So I would be good to have RC2. -- -Alexey Eromenko "Technologov" --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Hi,
I just installed RC1 on an HP 6510b laptop with an Intel 3945 card.
The wireless network does not work. It seems very similar to the bug:
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=372878
The install is 64bit/KDE4
If this is the same bug, I think it should be on your blockers list.
This is one of the most common network cards available in modern
laptops.

Stephan, what about 396166 ?
That is in screening on NEEDINFO. If you know what's causing it, shoot. Are you using reiser as the filesystem? Thats the original captain bug
coolo referred to in the report, but magnus didn't confirm it. There
have been no reports on ext3.

Yes, I'm using reiser on both test system. I didn't attach fstab yet because I can't access to my system right now. I will try also reformatting / with ext3 to see what happen. For the other hand, if that is the problem, could it affect my prod system? I have / as ext3 but /home as reiser and others as XFS. -- Kind regards --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Yes it could if reiser is the factor. I wanted to look at /etc/fstab to
see if user extended attributes were on and if this was making a
difference.

It would also be an excellent idea to have a Live CD WITH KDE 3.* as most won't want 4.0 as it's just not complete enough for production usage. Also, have the bugs reported for the RC1 DVD been fixed? I haven't heard anything about it since I reported the problem.........dies when the install starts writing files to the / partition. You *probably* will *not* hear it here, anyway. It is discussed in the opensuse-factory list where it is germain :^) The bugs that you are reporting (aren't you) also are discussed there. -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
