[opensuse-factory] Network Install Efficiency
I think the network installer isn't very efficient with bandwidth usage: http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/5331/networkinstallbandwidth.png I think the install time could be cut down significantly. On an average broadband connection (6mbps) there's nowhere near maximum utilization. -- Med Vennlig Hilsen, A. Can't see that image, but yes, the network installation apparently does not have parallel download support. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Isn't that up to the metalinks to "arrange" ? Not parallel-by-package, but judging from my proxy logs, the download via metalink means getting different chunks from different places and in parallel. As far as I have understood, the idea is to spread the download over multiple servers to maximize bandwidth utilization. (the image worked for me). -- Per Jessen, Zürich (18.5°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
It does use multiple download servers as redirected from download.opensuse.org, but I think if you look closer at your proxy logs you'll find that the downloads don't take place concurrently. As best I can tell the installation downloads a single package, installs it, and repeats. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Yes, that's what I meant when I said it's not parallel-by-package. Personally I don't mind that much, but the download isn't able to take advantage of the proxy, which is more annoying. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (12.6°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
