Experienced frequent hangs and error messages. Used fdupes to delete duplicate messages. Eliminated duplicate messages differing by the following single line:
Status: O
Now kmail is much more stable and had no more hangs for one day.

I'd be glad to have that...
The command was something like
# fdupes -r ./local
?
And Status: 0 referst to the result?

The command was something like

fdupes -dr /home/karl/.local/share/local-mail/ or fdupes -dr /home/karl/.local/share/.local-mail.directory/

No. kmail generates duplicate messages which have identical contents but one of them contains an additional line, which reads: Status: O
You may delete this line by using sed with inline editing: sed -i '/Status: O/ d' filename and run fdupes afterward.

Karl

Look closer, "O" is not "0"
"Status: O" is a msg headr line.
