There are known problems (crashes) when using QtWebEngine (which kdepim 16.08 uses for message display) on nouveau.

Installing the nvidia driver should fix it, or run kontact with "LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 kontact" (see http://www.mesa3d.org/envvars.html).

You could set that environment variable system or account wide, but then all applications (including Plasma, the desktop) would use software OpenGL rendering, so probably not a good idea either.

Its an improvement but it still crashes but at least i can read most of the emails before it dies- thanks for the tip
