[opensuse-factory] YaST DNS Server: New RRs, New Features, New Bugs...
Hi, I'm currently working on huge changes in the YaST DNS Server Configuration, the most important features are: * New resource records: AAAA (IPv6), SRV, TXT * IPv6 reverse zones (possibly automatically generated) * More strict checking when creating or changing records * Checking whole zones for their completeness (NS, ...) * ... Is there anyone who would like to test these new features and maybe add their own ideas, comments, etc.? Thx && Bye Lukas -- Lukas Ocilka, YaST Developer (xn--luk-gla45d) ----------------------------------------------------------------- Ano, ano. Moudry rozkaz. Sam jsem nemel v tech gratulacich jasno.

I would like to play with them. I think this is one area that needed attention. Thanks,
Can I add a bit 'me too' to Boyd's request? I've just spent a while setting up a small DNS server with Dynamic DHCP support, and there are probably a few areas that I would love to see improved. Is the DHCP YaST module being looked at as well, to increase the integration of these two components, e.g. Dynamic DNS with DHCP? With more and more people building home networks this would be a great area to spend some time on. Is it possible to include a switch after storing the DNS Records in Ldap to say "please don't change my named.conf" ? In co-operation with Yast2-mail (server) a small DNS record is created in LDAP (only domain). With your new Features it is possible to store the whole DNS record in LDAD, but when I have to change my named.conf with features, that are not supported in the moment ;), I can't do it. After a change or add the DNS Records the named.conf is broken :(. OK, I like to test it ;) -- mit freundlichen Grüßen / best Regards, Günther J. Well, I've been also working on enhancing the "Dynamic DNS" (possibility to update DNS Zone using `nsupdate`). I think that the DNS+DHCP should be already possible. Any more details on that so I could check it? Article, howto, ... :)? Thx L.

Günther, sometimes even the structure of named.conf has to be changed because the SCR agent that reads and writes it doesn't understand all possible forms of it. Which features aren't supported? Could you, please, file a bugreport that turning "Use LDAP" on trashes your settings? I'd need you to attach your YaST logs, and named.conf before and after switching it on. Even if it is just because of your hand-made named.conf, stil, please, file a bugreport. Bye Lukas PS: I don't promise to fix it but I promise to check whether I could fix it :) ;)

Finished, see article "Brand New Features in YaST DNS Server" at http://kobliha-suse.blogspot.com/2008/07/brand-new-features-in-yast-dns-serv... You should find the newest yast2-dns-server-2.17.3 in FACTORY.
