For years openSUSE has been distinguishable from other major distros in friendlier larger default fonts. Until recently while others have been using 8pt or 9pt as the base, oS was using 10pt. As of 11.3M3 at least it has been dropped to 9. Why?

Upstream KDE made this change - I haven't seen any discussion about the reasons.

I had to make my fonts bigger manually too.
And I usually like my fonts fairly small and I'm using a 19" at 1280x1024, so my problem is usually the other way around.
Prolly something that needs some careful consideration for 11.3.

For sure. I think the former 10pt base predates Novell's SuSE acquisition, and was judiciously selected keeping in mind it is much easier for a user finding too big fonts to use a too big fonts interface to change them smaller than it is for a user finding too small fonts to use a too small fonts interface to change them bigger.

10pt is too big for my taste. I always set to 9pt all fonts (except 'Small' and Toolbar' setting to 8pt) and recommend it because that way desktop looks much more clear and saves space.
