Octopus, an alternative OpenPGP backend for Thunderbird
Octopus 1.2 is Released: https://sequoia-pgp.org/blog/2021/12/13/202112-octopus/ It says Fedora has it already packaged and Thunderbird is modified to allow swapping backends. Can we have it, please?

Add mozilla:experimental to your repo list. It's been there since months but still version 1.1 actually ATM. The main reasons why it did not make it into Tumbleweed (or the official mozilla repo) as "supported" option is because it creates a quite hard dependency between both packages. Typically in the past Thunderbird changed APIs and it took the octopus people some time to integrate it (also because they are not doing frequent releases it seems). That would prevent us from rolling out new (security fixed) Thunderbird versions quickly. Wolfgang
for completeness: just tried to buld 1.2.0 but it complains about cargo being to old in Tumbleweed. Wolfgang Am 13.12.21 um 21:50 schrieb Wolfgang Rosenauer:

Except https://software.opensuse.org//download.html?project=mozilla%3Aexperimental&package=thunderbird91 says "No data" (and Octopus package is currently broken, but I trust you that you're gonna to fix it soon). Best, Matj

Oh, f***. Octopus requires rust edition 2021, which is provided by rust
= 1.56. Mozilla repositories have it held back to earlier version, because newer rust (with newer llvm) was causing Firefox to hang (https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1192067).
Anyway, thanks for the info about mozilla:experimental repository. I'll keep an eye on it.

I'm not responsible for software.opensuse.org and don't know why it's broken. The octopus package is broken because I upgraded to 1.2.0. Everything you find under https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/mozilla:/experimental/ still works anyway though. I'm running it. Wolfgang

1) The correct url is https://software.opensuse.org/download/package?package=MozillaThunderbird&project=mozilla%3Aexperimental (here you need to specify the name of created binary package) 2) Someone did something with rust version in mozilla repo and now Octopus 1.2.0 is built successfully.
