[opensuse-factory] Why exists taboo?
Re: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=661757 I don't get the response in comment 1. 1-Why have "taboo!", as a separate selection from "do not install", if it isn't going to cause packages marked with it to never get installed? Its help text says: "This package is not installed and should not be installed under any circumstances, especially not because of unresolved dependencies that other packages might have or get. Packages set to 'taboo' are treated as if they did not exist on any installation media." IOW, never does not mean never to YaST2, so why have taboo at all? What's taboo's purpose for existence? 2-Why aren't "console tools" already part of a minimal (no X) install? -- "How much better to get wisdom than gold, to choose understanding rather than silver." "do not install" is soft setting, if any package really requires it then it _will_ be installed "taboo" is hard setting, the package will _never_ be installed (therefore this can lead to broken package dependencies) -- Best Regards Ladislav Slezák Yast Developer ------------------------------------------------------------------------ SUSE LINUX, s.r.o. e-mail: lslezak@suse.cz Lihovarská 1060/12 tel: +420 284 028 960 190 00 Prague 9 fax: +420 284 028 951 Czech Republic http://www.suse.cz/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Did you not read https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=661757 (the context for this question)? Its WONTFIX status seems inconsistent with "never". Some packages are certainly not treated as not existing. That particular scenario is hardly the first time I've marked a package taboo during installation and seen it get installed anyway. e.g., marking SuSEfirewall2 do not install is pointless. Even marking it taboo leaves it, 4 apparmor* packages, and iptables checked for installation on the installation summary tab. -- "How much better to get wisdom than gold, to choose understanding rather than silver."
