[opensuse-factory] Strange boot failure
Hi! Out of the sudden my 13.2 Thinkpad refused to boot. See: http://git.infradead.org/~rw/os132_boot_fail.jpg No getty, no X11, no nothing. How can this happen? The kernel did not panic, keyboard worked but systemd refused to continue. After a hard reset it booted fine again. -- Thanks, //richard -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Was this after a fresh install? If the answer is no. Can you replicate it or was it a one time problem? After the hard reset, type: dmesg Cheers! Roman -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I'm using this setup for ages. I happened only once.
After the hard reset, type: dmesg
How would that help? dmesg prints the current kernel log buffer. -- Thanks, //richard -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I guess you have the 5 min time out and the 'mouting /sysroot' issue.
That measn the btrfs journal got corrupted (Ludwig posted a mail a few
days ago with a warning about this - the fixed kernel should be in the
next snapshot).
The fastest way to recover is to either
- boot an older kernel
- use btrfs-zero-log /dev/sdXN
Hope that helps you to get going again

I'm not using btrfs, it is a ext4. -- Thanks, //richard -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I'm guessing that this is a hardware issue, though probably a temporary one. An internal register somewhere gets into a state that it should be in. I have had this sort of thing happen, and only a hard reset or a power off/power on reset will fix it. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

In the screenshot it is seen that the virtualbox kernel drivers are loaded, abandon all hope those who enter there.. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

This is a 13.2 issue. Please do not cross-post to the factory mail list. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R.
