[opensuse-factory] After update to KDE 5.4, the workspace hangs at startup at 90%

I do not know that it is related to Intel graphics, it is just the one in the NUC that I have TW running.
It never achieves a kwin session when logging in.
Two questions to further debug the problem: 1. Are you using KWallet and if so, are you using PAM integration? 2. Are you using any environment-setting scripts? (inside ~/.config/plasma- workspace/env) Q1 No I do not use KWallet (unless this is used by default, I have not configured or set it up). Q2 No there is no 'plasma-workspace/...' directory under .config This is just an initial KDE install. Completely fresh? In any case, looking at ~/.xsession-errors may give some clues about this issue. -- Luca Beltrame - KDE Forums team KDE Science supporter GPG key ID: A29D259B -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I wonder if it is just plasmashell that crashed (or refuses to start) or that the whole desktop isn't started. Can you try to use the shortcut Alt-Space ? This should normally bring up the krunner dialog on the top of the screen. If so, start a konsole and type in the konsole the command "plasmashell". This should start the plasmashell and if it crashes again more info should be visible in the konsole. Another thought, as this is with an intel card: Does it work in "recovery mode"? Maybe try this then, as there are known problems with the intel driver's SNA acceleration: https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Switch_xf86-video-intel_to_UXA See also: http://news.softpedia.com/news/critical-intel-graphics-driver-bug-puts-kde-p... (I'm surprised that nobody else suggested that already... ;-) ) Kind Regards, Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
@Wolfgang: I made the suggested changes and rebooted. Still hangs...
@Raymond: plasmashell produces an error message when started from Konsole:
plasmashell: symbol lookup error: plasmashell: undefined symbol:
_ZN8KWayland6Client8Registry20plasmaShellAnnouncedEjj
Does this mean anything to anyone?

Ok, then please revert the change. This should only be done if necessary, as it negatively impacts graphics performance.

Yes. You still have the old libKWaylandServer and libKWaylandClient packages installed, i.e. your system is not fully updated. Install kwayland instead (this should remove the former), and your problem should be fixed. How did you do the update? zypper should automatically replace the former packages by the latter one. I know from some forum threads though that some users try to use YaST (All in this list->Update, if newer version available) to keep their Tumbleweed system up-to-date, and that doesn't do "the right thing" in this case.
