Where did you get this version from?
I just go to their web site and search for it, it's a bit picky (it only gives the 32 bit version if you don't type 64 for example) Q
The latest one I can see on their web site is 177.82 (dated "12.11.2008")
I can't get the 'official' openSuSE 11.0 one (173.14.12-0.1) to play nicely - my GeForce 6100 won't work above 1024x768 with it - so I want to try a newer one.

GeForce 6100 is still supported with the newest driver. See http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html For 64 bit http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_amd64_177.82.html On left side you have "Supported Products List" that links to http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_18897.html and you can see Chip PCI ID GeForce 6100 nForce 420 0x03D5 GeForce 6100 nForce 405 0x03D1 GeForce 6100 nForce 400 0x03D2 GeForce 6100 0x0242 -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Thanks - mine's the last of these, 0x0242 Used to do 1280x1024 in OpenSuSE 10.3 but 11.0 / 11.1 betas won't work above 1024x768 - all I get is a black screen with a white / coloured horizontal line at the top. This with 'official' openSuSE 11.0 one (173.14.12-0.1) or various versions up to and including 180.08 for nvidia site (thanks to previous replies in this thread) I'm not sure if it's really a Beta / Factory issue (same in 11.0 final) but something has changed since 10.3... -- Cheers Richard (MQ) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

It seems so. My graphic cards, all nvidia, are hotter in 11.1 than in 11.0, but to make sure I have to go and make more tests. I can't say about earlier as only 10.3 is on laptop and it has ATI chipset. For time being I have to play gently to prevent more damage. I have 64 bit computer out of commision until I can replace motherboard, and it quit after graphic showed some irregularities. I shut down computer, but it never booted again. Testing pretty barebone configuration with add on graphic card didn't helped to see at least some portion of the boot. I'm not very sad about that as it was anyway time for upgrade, but besides known problems that nvidia has with manufacturing, I have feeling that they add up pushing chips beyond actual technical capabilities. I'm currently using nv driver, but heatsink is still hotter than I feel comfortable. If I can't keep hand on it for more than a few seconds, it is not good. -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I added a fan to one of my nvidia graphics cards (a 5200 which didn't come with one) and it ran much cooler and more stable too. The fan came from a dead PSU but they are easy enough to buy new. Can make things noisy though... -- Cheers Richard (MQ) -- Cheers Richard (MQ) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Me too, finally. I was buying fanless cards because I really like low noise computer, but searching for reasons why it is hotter now then before, I found few articles taliking about overclocking, and it seems that todays chips and card designs are open for that, so I finally gave up and an hour ago attached fan. While it is easy to buy some, I have few fans from old CPU coolers that are small enough to fit on a graphic card heatsink without fittings. In any case next motherboard will have good cooling for chipset. I'm not rich enough to buy cheap stuff. -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I just compiled 'nvclock' ( http://freshmeat.net/projects/nvclock/ ). According to the 'nvclock --info' in 11.1 Beta 5 memory is set to over 300 MHz, while in 11.0 is set to 265 MHz. The GPU clocks are the same 250 MHz. I'll open new thread about this. -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Yes :-) Mine Geforce 6100 was onboard that smoked a week ago, so I can't help. Probably it would be worth to report as a bug to the author.
