For me the biggest issue in terms of effort is whether SUSE's ALP will have X11 packages I can just use or if i'd need to become the X11 maintainer for this stream.
Afaik the Desktop WG is planning to go with Wayland only and remove X11 from ALP entirely.
Yep i'm aware that's being discussed, although i'm not 100% sure we have established wayland meets all our customer needs yet. If SUSE does go Wayland only for its ALP Desktop there is nothing stopping the community continuing to maintain X11 as long as someone is willing to put in the effort to maintain it. Given I have several usecase's that still require X11 and I know many others in the community also do (many of the desktop environments we support in Leap don't support wayland for example). For atleast as long as X11 is being maintained in Tumbleweed id be willing to put in the effort to try and maintain it in the community version of ALP if SUSE or the current maintainers are not. At this point for me atleast doing this is far less effort then writing the large amount of code to get all my required use cases working under Wayland. -- Simon Lees (Simotek) http://simotek.net Emergency Update Team keybase.io/simotek SUSE Linux Adelaide Australia, UTC+10:30 GPG Fingerprint: 5B87 DB9D 88DC F606 E489 CEC5 0922 C246 02F0 014B

As long as most basic things like gnome-terminal --geometry=82x45+540+0 not working in Wayland, I consider it immature.

Can you share some (more) of those usecases and their background / why they do not go along with Waylan? Gerald
I’m still using X11 in Plasma. I tend to set the scale of my screen at 125% to 150%. Scaling in wayland Plasma is still not usable. The screen would be blurred. I searched for a solution and it seems that this problem wouldn’t be solved in a very short period of time. On the other hand, wayland in GNOME looks fine and it performs even better than X11.
