Hi,
I tried to build xine-lib for MS6. Source RPM from packman. For the rpmbuild I need flac-devel but I can't find it.

I got the same problem to recompile Mplayer. I downloaded it for the version 11.1 from Packman.

I can't find flac or flac-devel at packman. Did you take the flac-devel from openSuSE?

OK, I understand that it should be available for the 11.2 release which means that for the moment this is a bug of MS6.
Should I file a bug-report?

it is available in openSUSE:Factory
btw, why not just try vlc? It is available and already built for 11.2. http://download.videolan.org/pub/vlc/SuSE/11.2/

And has been since the very early days of 11.2 development. And will continue to be so with the next cycle for 11.3.

This sounds nice. It would be great if the xine-lib and others would be accessible somewhere in the same way. After all it can't even be tested...

I don't or fail to understand your comments. You want to build packages to provide access to items that openSUSE cannot legally provide, but do not want to *use* that distro.
The *other* packages are not necessary for M6 (or the previous milestones) if you add the videolan repo and use vlc and you do not need to build anything.
HOW can you test m6 and advise items you believe broken or missing w/o using the distro.
Helping or attempting to help when the direction or need is unclear is *very* difficult at the very least.
Please tell us *really* what you want, specifically, and perhaps you will loose some of the exhibited frustration. :^)

I want to use the 11.2 official release when it's ready. I don't want to use a for me not working Milestone. :-) Me trying to build the xine-lib was just an idea. I wanted to see if I can do that easily... I can't : I'll wait for packman

I do understand that, And I'm happy that the VLC lovers can already test their favorite media player under the Milestones. I would love to be able to do the same with kaffeine. The way things are right now I have the impression that it'll be a surprise when 11.2 official release comes out whether people will be able to make xine work with the packman builds or if it will just not work...

Well, I download the installation DVD, I make a full new install. I try to use everything that I use usually, and then I send a message to this list for everything that is not working for me, hoping to get an advice if I should, yes or no, make a bug report and hoping that for the final release things will work.

Sorry if I give you the feeling of frustration. I don't have it :-) But I will, if these things will still not work on the 11.2 official release :-)
So what I want here is: - a comment about should I file a bug report or not. - get the attention of the developers (thanks for your great work) to the things that don't work here - my problems to be fixed from MS7 up to eternity :-)
Hope this helps :-) Thank you Karl

vlc is available now! packman will have ll.2 packages "when it 11.2 is released", iiuc. That is how it worked in the past.

wouldn't it be easier to just keep the install and update it, zypper dup?

Then you'll have to wait til November when it released, until then you can use 11.1.

It would be even better if a phonon-backend-vlc[0] was built as well.. At this point xine-lib from packman works so all multimedia is working in KDE.
However, if that would break, multimedia would not be playable in factory. Since you build vlc for factory, a vlc backend would be very nice..
Thanks, Per [0] http://websvn.kde.org/trunk/playground/multimedia/phonon-backends/vlc/

You made it work under MS6? I have some unresolved dependencie with something like libImageMagickCore.so..
How did you do?

"xine-lib from packman" he didn't build it.

One answer for the two questions :-)
I have been mostly disappointed when a new release of SuSE came out. To many problems, things that didn't work out of the box. The 11.1 for example I installed it 3 times and it went each time straight to the trash... This is why I try to help this time so when the release comes at least the things I use will work...
I'm not going to use MS6 I only have it to tell you what is not working so it can be fixed. This is why I don't install vlc.
The same for lame-devel. For the final release I expect it to be accessible on the media or on the repositories (which I can't access also, see the other thread).
Thanks Karl
