I haven't payed too much attention of the general state. Is there plans to upstream this to Mesa? Otherwise it is likely to generate problems on every new Mesa release (the patches are already not applicable for mesa master). It'd be nice to get this into master!

Definitely. Most patches - if not all - will land in upstream soon. Upstream is very interested in downstream applying as less patches as possible.
