[opensuse-factory] module compilation on kernel change
One of the french forum user posted recently a script of interest: http://forums.opensuse.org/other-languages/francais-french/aide-et-support/p... even if it's in french, the script is international langage The goal of this script is to recompile the necessary proprietary modules after a kernel update. I don't know if the script is well done, I have no knowledge of this kind, but it looks very interesting. In fact one of the most often asked question on forums is "why do my virtual box, nvidia card, ati card" don't work anymore this author seems not wanting to follow factory or OBS. So if somebody think this script is valuable, may be it could be included somewhere?? thanks jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://pizzanetti.fr -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I went to that page, and tried the first link to find more information, the "projects page". Alas, link does not exist (error 404). - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R. The links under documentation are fine and provide a good overview. AFAIK it's used by Ubuntu, Mandriva, and Fedora, so I'd guess they provide documentation as well; there's also the git repo on kernel.org. -- Guido Berhoerster -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Because of KMP and security reasons. See https://features.opensuse.org/305148 Regards, R. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

DKMS can also be used to generate binary packages, thus making the need
of a C compiler optional when people want to avoid it.
We were using this dual mode on Mandriva : binary packages, built by
DKMS for some products (where we didn't want gcc installer) and source
based package for other products.
