Yeah, the package manager does not know if you need to reboot or re-login. that would require having a list of software which is known to require reboot for upgrade.. I'm afraid that for this to work as expected ( that's different from getting it to work) It needs to apply the updates in a all-or-nothing transaction and return sucess or fail.
