With "they" I was talking about Qt upstream. Chrome is a typical Google product where the main focus is solely about commercial interests. You will realize that when you try to get a patch merged upstream. Unless it's useful to them and not only useful to others, it will usually get rejected. I would have stayed with WebKit which should be enough for 99% of the usecases of an HTML rendering engine inside a Qt application and also doesn't heavily limit the portability of Qt.
