What about shipping the upstream maintained classic mode? It's part of
gnome-shell-extensions upstream and I tweaked it to work on Wayland
with GNOME 42. It could be tweaked in openSUSE to more closely
resemble the layout SUSE and openSUSE users had in the past. It
currently mimics the original GNOME 2 layout.
