And a stupid thing to be arguing about, too. If we came up with a sequential series of numbers, there's be someone who "didn't get it" or "didn't like it". I don't care much what number system is used, as long as it is decided on a vote, because the current scheme was decided by a vote. That's the main point.
And yes, many people do not know what the number 42 stands for; do not assume that everybody has the same cultural background on Earth. That should have been explained in the proposal, and this part of the discussion would not have even started.
You may think it is bikeshedding, but the current number scheme was agreed upon after much debate and a two phase vote. That decision can not be simply ignored.
iiuc, this portion of the thread is missing the point. The designation of "42" is a placeholder/temporary-identifying-mark/name-to-use-until-proven or anything it can be called *just* to identify a possible collection of applications until such time as future action can be determined. It doesn't need or have to be "voted" on as it doesn't exist as a distributed version, now or sometime in the future. It is more like you would call your new-born, baby, until you have decided upon a name. Much todo is being spent far from the intended direction. And no matter what it ends up being called, there will be many voices in disagreement and those will be the loudest. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
