I am looking for solutions, but can you explain what you mean with running fbdev X server on top of the i915 framebuffer ?
Well, i915 with KMS does create a "normal" framebuffer device. It should be possible to run the old and simple fbdev X server. I'll have to find out what I have to put into xorg.conf to achieve that, though.
From my mind:
cat > /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/00-device.conf << EOF Section "Device" Identifier "fbdev" Driver "fbdev" EndSection EOF
Oh - and for the flickering screen, there's https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=596844 ;-)
Yes, that's an entertaining one. ;-) Best regards, Stefan Public Key available ------------------------------------------------------ Stefan Dirsch (Res. & Dev.)
