So far maintainers had to submit to and maintain packages in Factory
Basically yes, but my understanding is that they should also maintain them in the releases if security issues or bugfixes warrant a maintenance update. (In other words: If you submit something to factory, you should also provide maintenance updates for supported openSUSE releases whenever needed.)
Contributors who mainly use and deploy releases and are not be served very well by the outcome of the proposed model may well stop contributing to Factory too.
That could in theory happen. In practise, you don't want to update your package only every 3 years IMHO [1], so I don't expect there will be many people who submit something only to the SLE-based releases, but not to factory. Regards, Christian Boltz [1] lots of things will break at once if you do this - which means a bigger pain than doing incremental updates -- Insgesamt denke ich, dass es einfacher ist, sich eine Pistole anzuschaffen und sich in den Fuß zu schiessen. Das Ergebnis ist das gleiche, aber wenigstens belästigst du nicht andere dabei.
