suspect it'll be much harder to get them (and other OSTree users) to
change so that /usr/etc is free for this purpose.
I'm not as confident about getting that through, but we can *try*.
That said, I'm surprised that there is an aspect of Linux you're shy about!
I wish we *could* rename /etc to /cfg or /config now... It's much more
meaningful than "et cetera"... But one step at a time!
So again, I support /usr/config or /usr/cfg (in that order of preference).

Let me add: we should not interfere with libostree based projects
(which would
make libostree based projects unfeasible for our platform,
especially since
some Fedora-based projects adapt this already).
So this is enough evidence of not using /usr/etc, no matter how
much we all
agree on this choice otherwise, isn't it?
I tend to agree, OSTree is being used for rpm-ostree which seems to
be
worked on by fedora / CoreOS people, so if that is a block from them
ever being able to ever swap to /usr/etc long term even if we can't
convince them away from /usr/lib in the short term then it seems like
a
poor choice, even if it makes the most sense for users.
I have also never looked at libostree so maybe us using /usr/etc for
other things won't directly interfere with it.
