I don't care much what number system is used, as long as it is decided on a vote, because the current scheme was decided by a vote. That's the main point. And yes, many people do not know what the number 42 stands for; do not assume that everybody has the same cultural background on Earth. That should have been explained in the proposal, and this part of the discussion would not have even started.
