If it altered your thunderbird configuration, it means that it shares configuration files, maybe the entire profile and mail dirs.
Maybe it has a trick to use a different profile instead.
If this is added to the repos I don't think it should replace TB allowing users to chose.

I'm on TW/KDE and I tried it last night by way of a flatpak. I had to symlink the flatpak's .../.thunderbird to ~/.thunderbird. I didn't try it for long but biff didn't work. It didn't seem like the KDE color scheme was being fully respected. I didn't get much time to dabble.
