I don't know how free or unfree it is. However, gmail video conferencing or whatever it is called, is very interesting in principle because you can just say to somebody "get to gmail and click on chat" - and get it done with no hassles. Typically people point you to hotmail, which doesn't work in linux (1). Gmail is popular, so a linux client that can communicate with windows users, just use it, no need to tell them to install strange things like ekiga and manipulate the router... that's fantastic for non technical people.
Or for technical people like me that just want to talk with people that don't know one end of the computer from another.

and see how "many" possibilities are there for windows-linux communication.
