I uninstalled everything regarding nouveau, nv and nvidia drivers, but
Possibly you may need to detail your meaning of "everything" uninstalled. Are every packge named nouveau, nv or nvidia except a few libraries with many dependencies.
Shouldn't be necessary.
I tried it step by step ...
The only thing would have been xf86-video-nouveau, that's the "nouveau" Xorg driver.
... with xf86-video-nouveau first. But because that didn't seem to be sufficient I uninstalled them one by one.
Xorg will fall back to "modesetting" if xf86-video-nouveau is not installed (or it fails to load/refuses to run).
Then there's also Mesa-dri-nouveau, which contains the "nouveau" OpenGL driver which is also used by "modesetting" as mentioned. You should probably keep it if it doesn't cause you problems, otherwise Mesa's software renderer is used for OpenGL which will be much slower.
Ok. Next time I give it a try, I will keep the dri module.
you sure everything in /etc/X11* is as the installer left it, neither an xorg.conf file nor any modified files in xorg.conf.d/?
I explicitly removed xorg.conf.d completely.
The whole directory? That's not a good idea, there are other things in there unrelated to the graphics driver.
I know, but there is nothing in it I need. Everything *in my environment* works as expected even without xorg.conf or xorg.conf.d.
Kind Regards, Wolfgang
