Finishing Leap Micro 5.3 setup (need to finish publishing)
https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1200446 (haven't deep
dive to this yet)
we're preparing Leap 15.3 / 15.4 profiles for a customer for use in a
non-Internet-connected environment (installation via SuMa). We have all
required channels, but the openSUSE-release RPM unconditionally
introduces repositories with download.opensuse.org URLs, two of them
activated... hence stage 2 of the autoyast install reports errors on
repository refresh, which we cannot disable via autoyast settings. Jiri
suggested I get in touch with you. Current work-around is to "sed"-
disable the repos in a chroot-script, but I'd rather see a solution
(maybe in terms of a pattern all packages can follow), i.e. the post-
install script of openSUSE-release detecting autoyast and then
deactivating any repository it introduces (or not even add the repos at
all, without breaking "rpm -V"). Jiri offered to help with his views on
this (just mentioning it here...).
Perhaps a topic for Leap 15.4 QU1?
(from Jens - the one who reported this): If there's a "proper" way to
detect that installation is via autoyast: In postinstall, change the
"enabled=1" to "enabled=0" for all added repos. They're added as config
files, so they'll be reported as "modifed", but I'd prefer this over
removing the files alltogether in post-install (rpm -V then would
report them as *missing*). OTOH, conditionally *creating* these files
in post-install might be an option, but that would change the
behaviour: Currently, an "rpm -qf" would report ownership for these
files, while dynamically created files will be owner-less (the latter
is the same as with the other repositories created during installation,
so it would be ok with me. But if you insist on keeping as close to GM
as possible, just disabling the repos would be the way to go).
lkocman: I'm still thinking of a service to deliver these repositories
compared to current file definitions ... we wanted it for Jump. 15.5 is

## Adrian - OBS
Seems like not all vides from the conference were not published yet. We
do have some topics to discuss and it would be nice to have them
around.
Lubos to reach out to Marco, regarding all "stuck" requests in
SUSE:SLE* in OBS. lkocman can't close them.
Q from Jiri Srain: can we have a role that would allow our release
engineers to rebuild packages in ALP etc? Not necessarily maintainer
but something like "developer"?
Adrian: token support could solve this, token can have right to do a
specific action. Token could be mapped to a user. Adding new role is
quite heavy request. Hopefully we do not need a token for a package.

Leap 15.5 Early Feature Planning (Early feature deadline is on 29th July 2022)
by Lubos Kocman 11 Jul '22
by Lubos Kocman 11 Jul '22
11 Jul '22
Hello openSUSE!
This is a friendly *reminder to report all early features for Leap 15.5
(SLE) on time before deadline on 29th July (the date when features
already need to be in jira.suse.coM)
Neal and me process all community feature reported in
https://code.opensuse.org/leap/features every Monday at 15:00 UTC.
All SLES features that will be reported until 29th July 2022 will be
tracked by SLE 15.5 Release Management as early/regular features.
Features reported post this date will fall into a late feature process.
Just to clarify all Leap-specific features and package drops with no
dependency on SLE can be worked on until Leap 15.5 Public Beta, as
usual. Nothing changes in there.
Just as a reminder, 15.5 is expected to be a conservative release, as
we'd like to steer most of the development resources into ALP.
The roadmap for Leap 15.5 can be already seen here
https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Roadmap
I expect that some of the dates might still change. I feel that ALP
might have some impact, e.g., early feature submit deadlines and
feature evaluation.

Thank you for your understanding
Lubos

* Highlights
- Some critical bugs in the new audioconvert were fixed. The
old adapter had internal buffering that was abused in some
places.

duplication of code.
- 24bits conversions were rewritten to use the generic
conversion functions.
- Temporary buffers in audioconvert are now made large enough
in all cases.
- Fix draining in audioconvert. This fixes speaker-test.
- Fix the channel remapping.
- Audio conversion constants were tweaked to handle the maximum
ranges and provide lossless conversion between 24bits and
floats.
- Vector code and C code are aligned and the unit tests are
activated again. A new lossless conversion test was added.
- Fix an underrun case where the adapter would not ask for more
data.
- Fix PROP_INFO for audioconvert.
- Use the blackman window again for the resampler, the cosh
window has some bugs that can cause distortion in some cases.
- Add more unit tests for audioconvert. Add end-to-end
conversion tests.
- Don't leak memory in format converter.
* pulse-server
- Card properties are now also added to sinks and sources,
just like in pulseaudio.

+ Fix forced inclusion of important files like licenses for
sdist targets when using the explicit selection options
+ Don't sort project URL metadata so that the rendered order
on PyPI can be controlled
- update to version 1.4.0:

to provide targeted inclusion, since that is desired most of
the time

==== wireplumber ====
Version update (0.4.10 -> 0.4.11)
Subpackages: libwireplumber-0_4-0 wireplumber-audio wireplumber-lang
- Add patch to fix alsa device creation:
* fix-alsa.patch
- Update to version 0.4.11:
* Changes
- The libcamera monitor is now enabled by default, so if the
libcamera source is enabled in PipeWire, cameras discovered
with the libcamera API will be available out of the box.
This is safe to use alongside V4L2, as long as the user does
not try to use the same camera over different APIs at the
same time.
- Libcamera and V4L2 nodes now get assigned a
`priority.session` number; V4L2 nodes get a higher priority
by default, so the default camera is going to be /dev/video0
over V4L2, unless changed with `wpctl`.
- Libcamera nodes now get a user-friendly description based on
their location (e.g. built-in front camera). Additionally,
V4L2 nodes now have a "(V4L2)" string appended to their
description in order to be distinguished from the libcamera
ones.
- 50-alsa-config.lua now has a section where you can set
properties that will only be applied if WirePlumber is
running in a virtual machine. By default it now sets
`api.alsa.period-size = 256` and `api.alsa.headroom = 8192`.
* Fixes
- The "enabled" properties in the config files are now "true"
by default when they are not defined. This fixes backwards
compatibility with older configuration files.
- Fixed device name deduplication in the alsa monitor, when
device reservation is enabled.
- Reverted a previous fix that makes it possible again to get
a glitch when changing default nodes while also changing the
profile (GNOME Settings).
The fix was causing other problems and the issue will be
addressed differently in the future.
- Fixed an issue that would prevent applications from being
moved to a recently plugged USB headset.
- Fixed an issue where wireplumber would automatically link
control ports, if they are enabled, to audio ports,
effectively breaking audio.
- The policy now always considers the profile of a device that
was previously selected by the user, if it is available, when
deciding which profile to activate.
- A few documentation fixes.
* Tools
- wpctl now has a `get-volume` command for easier scripting of
volume controls.
- wpctl now supports relative steps and percentage-based steps
in `set-volume`.
- wpctl now also prints link states.
- wpctl can now `inspect` metadata objects without showing
critical warnings.
* Library
- A new WpDBus API was added to maintain a single D-Bus
connection among modules that need one.
- WpCore now has a method to get the virtual machine type, if
WirePlumber is running in a virtual machine.
- WpSpaDevice now has a
`wp_spa_device_new_managed_object_iterator()` method.
- WpSpaJson now has a `wp_spa_json_to_string()` method that
returns a newly allocated string with the correct size of the string token.
- WpLink now has a `WP_LINK_FEATURE_ESTABLISHED` that allows
the caller to wait until the link is in the PAUSED or ACTIVE
state. This transparently now enables watching links for
negotiation or allocation errors and failing gracefully
instead of keeping dead link objects around.
* Misc
- The Lua subproject was bumped to version 5.4.4.
- Rebase reduce-meson-required-version.patch
==== wpa_supplicant ====

Hello openSUSE!
This is a heads, opensuse infrastructure remain unaffected. We will
keep maintaing gocd pipeline configuration in openSUSE-release-tools.
SLES will move their botmaster *gocd pipelines from botmaster.suse.de,
which was previously used by both openSUSE and SLES, to a separate
host.
This is due to meet SALSA requirements for SLES 15.5.
SLES Release Management seems to be demanding support from the
autobuild team, including a 4-eyes review of changes to botmaster
pipelines, etc.
Multiple people (bcc'ed) outside the autobuild team have root access to
the botmaster.suse.de, which is why the autobuild team plans to have a
brand new botmaster/gocd instance built from scratch.
SLES also mentioend plans to perhaps separate SLES gocd pipeline
configuration (not the pipeline code etc) from openSUSE-release-tools
into a separate package.
In this way, people who previously had root access to botmaster.suse.de
can keep the access and continue working as before.

While we have enabled it by default, believing that doing so will reduce
the number of bugs users encounter running libX11 clients, in some cases
it may expose bugs in which clients had previously gotten away with calling
libX11 functions while a libX11 lock is already held, and thus now deadlock,
as discussed in https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/lib/libx11/-/issues/157 .

Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers,
Full steam ahead – with 7 snapshots published in one week. of course,
most of those snapshots were not drastically changing the world.
Vacation season on one hand and lots and lots of discussions around ALP
and prototyping take some resources away. Nevertheless, Tumbleweed is
supposedly staying the base for it all, and it is thus just natural to
let it roll.
The 7 snapshots (0630, 0701…0706) consisted of these changes:
* Mesa 22.1.3
* Pipewire 0.3.53
* Vim 9.0
* Linux kernel 5.18.9
* KDE Plasma 5.25.2
For the following snapshots in the works, there are some things the
community has been waiting for. you can expect these changes to happen
rather sooner than later:
* GCC 12.1.1
* Libvirt 8.5.0
* Pipewire as a replacement for PulseAudio: The default has been
switched in Snapshot 0708 to install Pipewire by default instead of
Pulseaudio. Existing systems will not be migrated automatically. If you
wish to perform the switch: zypper in pipewire-pulseaudio and let
zypper remove the Pulseaudio packages
* Perl 5.26.0: breaks texlive and one yast’s Perl bindings
* systemd 251.2: blocked by SELinux reports (boo#1200911)
* KDE Applications 22.04.3
* GNOME Shell 42.3 (sort of GNOME 42.3, but again without the actual
gnome-desktop version bump)
* Linux kernel: re-enabling simpledrm (3rd attempt)
Cheers,
Dominique

tl;dr: Enable DRM for all graphics output and retire fbdev drivers in TW.
Hi!
For quit a few releases, Linux' DRM stack has been able to provide
display output from the early boot stages on. Next year, we want to
modernize Tumbleweed's graphics stack and use DRM for all graphics output.
To get graphics output during the early stages of booting, Linux
still uses fbdev infrastructure and a few HW-independed drivers, such as
efifb and vesafb.
This functionality is now available in DRM as well. We will switch
early-boot graphics from fbdev to DRM and retire the related fbdev
drivers. Fbdev userspace interfaces (i.e., /dev/fb0) will still be
available via the new driver.
The change has no effect on graphics output of the fully booted machine.
Just as now, at some point during boot, a hardware-specific driver, such
as amdgpu, i915, etc., will take over the display.
Why switch? The generic DRM driver provides a fallback for all systems
without hardware-specific drivers. Even with broken hardware drivers,
generic DRM can most likely boot and provide graphics output. This isn't
easily possible with fbdev. Fbdev has been out of date for several
years. Modern graphics userspace slowly uses the ability to run on top
of fbdev. Most notably, wayland compositors are affected by this. We
also have received reports about systems being unable to boot because of
fbdev.
TW's X11 and userspace should be ready (sans bugs). If you want to test,
Takashi provides a kernel that has full-DRM enabled at
https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/tiwai:/simpledrm/
If you install and boot the kernel, you should ideally see no
difference. Once booted the hardware's driver will do the graphics
output. To test if you booted with generic DRM, do
dmesg | grep drm
on the command line. The output should mention 'simpledrm' somewhere. If
you want to run your system with the generic driver only, pass
nomodeset
on the kernel command line in Grub. The booted system should run with
only software rendering, but provide useful output via X11, wayland and
console.
We welcome bug reports. If you find issues, please leave a comment in
boo#1193250
https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1193250
Best regards
Thomas

Hi all,
just as a heads-up: I have updated the python-based version of docker-compose to
the latest version available. And found out that there is a version 2.x which is
a major rewrite in Go.
I have package the new non-python docker-compose package as well as the
docker-compose-switch one, as v2 drops the docker-compose binary, and compose is
just a cli-plugin for docker. I.e. "docker compose version" instead of
"docker-compose version".
That is where the docker-compose-switch package comes into the picture, as it
provides a compatibility helper, i.e. there will still be a docker-compose
binary to call.
Caveat:
As v2 is no longer a standalone binary, this does no longer work with Podman
instead of docker. That means, if you update your system, the
python3-/python38-/python39-/python*-docker-compose package will be removed and
the two new packages will be installed, together with docker and its
dependencies if not yet present.
If this not desired, the best approach would be to either switch to the
python*-podman-compose package (that is actively maintained) or, if that is not
possible, lock the existing python*docker-compose one.

Feel free to review, add comments or point out errors.
As for the Provides/Obsoletes/Requires handling the transition, there was a
discussion on the packaging list where I finally got a solution that worked (at
least for me) on both Tumbleweed and Leap 15.x. Feel free to test and report
back any errors.
