[opensuse-factory] Tumbleweed - Review of the week 2019/40
by Dominique Leuenberger / DimStar 04 Oct '19
by Dominique Leuenberger / DimStar 04 Oct '19
04 Oct '19
Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers,
Back on a weekly cadence for the reviews. So this time I again only
review a single week, in which Tumbleweed has seen 4 snapshots being
published (0926, 0927, 0930 and 1002).
The snapshots contained these updates (and more, as usual):
* filesystem: Add /usr/libexec and /usr/local/libexec
* glibc 2.30
* Linux kernel 5.3.1
* strace 5.3
There are more things being staged. Some of the more interesting areas
of work:
* libeconf integration into openSUSE: move default config files from
/etc to /usr/etc
* systemd 243
* Linux kernel 5.3.2 and beyond
* poppler 0.81.0
* GStreamer 1.16.1
* KDE Plasma 5.17.0: current alphas are staged and being tested
* util-linux to enable libeconf integration
* openssl 1.1.1d: breaks nodejs8, nodejs10 and python3
Cheers,
Dominique

Please, someone override factory-auto. It's running amok.

Trying to update to the latest snapshot I run into problems. Zypper

Does anybody else encounter this problem?

[opensuse-factory] Heads-Up: some Applications/Packages scheduled for removing
by Dominique Leuenberger / DimStar 03 Oct '19

Hi all,
We (the GNOME Team) are planning on dropping a few packages from
Factory. It's mainly packages that are no longer maintained and start
to cause trouble with newer GNOME versions anyway.
the 'main' offender is libbonobo (no, fixing it is not an option, it's
just a bandaid)
Together with this, we will drop this tree:
libbonobo :
bareftp (unmaintained, declared dead by upstream)
gnome-commander (if there is ever a new release with modern tech, it
might come back)
gnome-desktop-sharp2
gnome-do (probably not the biggest loss nowadays - but still sad to
see it go)
gnome-do-plugins
gnome-sharp2
ignuit
libbonoboui
libgnome
libgnomeui
mono-upnp
perl-Gnome2
taglib-sharp
tuxpaint (Bjorn submitted a version to the devel branch that should
work without these legacy deps - up to the maintainer to decide if they
want to keep it or not)
Cheers,
Dominique

time measure unit suffix and provided in IEEE 754 floating point format.
* Updated lists of AUDIT_*, BPF_*, ETH_*, KEYCTL_*, KVM_*, MAP_*, SO_*, TCP_*, V4L2_*,
XDP_*, and *_MAGIC constants.
* Updated lists of ioctl commands from Linux 5.3.
* Enhanced manual page.

hci_channel field.
* Fixed evdev ioctl bitset decoding.
* Fixed tests on alpha with Linux kernel headers 5.1+.

* Make sure src/Makefile cleans up all executable files
when parent Makefile calls "make clean".
- Update to killproc 2.23
