Version update (7.03.95 -> 7.04.6)
Subpackages: kiwi-desc-isoboot kiwi-desc-netboot kiwi-desc-oemboot kiwi-desc-vmxboot kiwi-doc kiwi-media-requires kiwi-pxeboot kiwi-templates kiwi-tools
- v7.04.6 released
- Fixing wrong spaces
- Make sure there is no splash present when download dialogs appear
- Fixed creation of etc/crypttab
The method setupCryptTab creates etc/crypttab from the given
storage device. However in a raid setup the correct /dev/mdX
device needs to be used and not one of the storage devices in
the raid array. Fixes bnc#1003595
- Solving some broken dialogs
HideSplash method used to hide the splash only if there was an active
console, however the dialogs appear broken if the splash isn't hidden
and in some cases is hard to check if there is an active consoles
(i.e. after umount /sys or mount --move /dev /mnt/dev).\
This commit fixes bnc#997085
- v7.04.5 released
- Don't lookup a tool if it is not necessary
Fixup runtime check for iso tool check
- v7.04.4 released
- Don't lookup a tool if it is not necessary
- v7.04.3 released
- Build require an iso creation tool to pass checks
- Fixup wicked DNS data validation
wicked provides DNS info in DNSSERVERS with a space as
separator and not with a ',' as it was the case in dhcpcd
- v7.04.2 released
- Remove cdrkit-cdrtools-compat from requirements
- v7.04.01 released
- Added support for mkisofs in addition to genisoimage
* Removed 'allow-limited-size' which is not supported by mkisofs
* fixCatalog was returning null even if is was not failing
* regex for parsing isoinfo output has been improved to support
mkisofs format
- do not use ramdisk for rw, using tmpfs is more efficient
- Translated using Weblate (Portuguese (Brazil))
Currently translated at 100.0% (28 of 28 strings)
- v7.03.96 released
- Make sure netboot code populates kiwi_RootPart
For disk based images the file config.partids is written and
imported. However, for netboot stations a disk is optional
and no partids information exists. In order to provide at
least the partition number for the root partition on netboot
stations with a disk, the kiwi_RootPart is exported from
the provided client configuration file. Fixes bnc#1000194
- Custom device timeout variable added
This commit patches the issue bnc#992992. Now DEVICE_TIMEOUT
variable can be used in order to set the device waiting timeout
in watForStorageDevice function. Must be a numeric value expressed
in seconds.

It is right on opensuse.org (frontpage), next to the Tumbleweed icon.
Can't miss it.

I'm in a similar situation. I've stuck with 13.1 for a long time because
it works. I have an admin and backup/recovery system in place. I'm moving
forward to gain access access to repositories with more up to date applications
(photography in particular).
As you've outlined, in my case ext4 versus btrfs is not a really important decision.
I think I will reinstall a rootfs with ext4. Some of the features of btrfs are nice,
but they're not central to my requirements. If I stick with ext4 I can then continue
with my existing backup/recovery practices. I'm going to slow down and look
at Leap versus Tumbleweed and more carefully consider my needs going
forward, but I will likely stick with ext4 for no no matter which way I go.
If I was starting from nothing, I might stick with btrfs, but I'm looking for a simple
step forward, so ext4 suits me better.
This thread has provided heaps of knowledge that I think has helped me
make an informed decision. Thankyou to all that have contributed.
One last thing: it would be good if there was a pointer to some comprehensive
explanation of all these btrfs rootfs conventions around the @ based
subvolumes. I think @ helps make snaphots work by moving the actual root
to @, or maybe its just a naming thing. This would be useful info for anyone
attempting replicate or alter the root subvolumes. Other distros also appear
to be using @, but it's unclear if they are using it in exactly the same way.
Thanks again.
Regards,
Michael

[opensuse-factory] Heads-up: potential crash with activity pager and Plasma 5.8.2
by Luca Beltrame 19 Oct '16
by Luca Beltrame 19 Oct '16
19 Oct '16
Hello people,
In some setups, the next TW snapshot may cause crashes with Plasma if
you have added the (non-default, and hence not caught by openQA)
"activity pager" to your desktop.
This triggers a bug in Qt, which in turn crashes Plasma.
The upstream report (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=370516)
indicates that this is fixed in Plasma 5.8.2, which will be submitted
today to TW.
So for the moment, if you have that applet in the panel, *remove* it
prior to updating.

[opensuse-factory] Leap 42.2 RC1 balks at mounting existing Window partitions but installs and runs all OS OK
by James PEARSON 18 Oct '16
by James PEARSON 18 Oct '16
18 Oct '16
Hello all
I had Win7 running in a 30 Go (on /dev/sda1 partiton), WinXP (on dev/sda3) and Leap 42.2 B3 (on /dev/sda5) running OK on an OLD T60 Thinkpad laptop but I want to test installing Leap 42.2 RC1* under Win10 so I formatted /dev/sda1 to ntfs to wipe Win7 and installed Win10.
[*] openSUSE-Leap-42.2-DVD-x86_64-Build0245-Media.iso
Note : the table partition type of this hard drive is msdos not gpt
Win 10 booted OK
Next I installed Leap 42.2 RC1.
During the installation phase Leap 42.2 RC1 balked at mounting the /dev/sda1 (Win10) et /dev/sda3 (Win) partitions.
# Win10
http://j.pearson.pagesperso-orange.fr/IMG_20161018_191753.jpg
# WinXP
http://j.pearson.pagesperso-orange.fr/IMG_20161018_191839.jpg
Please note that the language and keyboard settings were both set to French
I hit the "Continue" button both times and Leap 42.2 installed and booted OK.
# Leap 42.2 B3 boot menu
http://j.pearson.pagesperso-orange.fr/IMG_20161018_194118.jpg
AFAIR, the 2 Windows OS were cleanly unmounted during their last shutdowns.
This was a fresh install and Leap 42.2 B3 booted fine as per usual. It installed 3 or 4 security updates on the first reboot.
I can ssh into it from another box
Win10 and WinXP also boot ok
Other remarks
# As I said before I installed Leap 42.2 B3 with the language and keyboard settings both set to French
When I tried typping to test that the keyboard was properly mapped - the setup changed to another (very foreign!) language setting.
This is definitely unexpected behaviour (but I believe this is a known problem).

==== postfix ====
Version update (3.1.2 -> 3.1.3)
Subpackages: postfix-doc
- update to 3.1.3:
* The Postfix SMTP server did not reset a previous session's
failed/total command counts before rejecting a client that
exceeds request or concurrency rates. This resulted in incorrect
failed/total command counts being logged at the end of the
rejected session.
* The unionmap multi-table interface did not propagate table
lookup errors, resulting in false "user unknown" responses.
* The documentation was updated with a workaround for false "not
found" errors with MySQL map queries that contain UTF8-encoded
text. The workaround is to specify "option_group = client" in
Postfix MySQL configuration files. This will be the default
setting with Postfix 3.2 and later.
==== python-setuptools ====
Version update (26.1.1 -> 28.3.0)
- update to 28.3.0:
* #809: In ``find_packages()``, restore support for excluding
a parent package without excluding a child package.
* #805: Disable ``-nspkg.pth`` behavior on Python 3.3+ where
PEP-420 functionality is adequate. Fixes pip #1924.
* #803: Bump certifi to 2016.9.26.
* #733: Do not search excluded directories for packages.
This introduced a backwards incompatible change in ``find_packages()``
so that ``find_packages(exclude=['foo']) == []``, excluding subpackages of ``foo``.
Previously, ``find_packages(exclude=['foo']) == ['foo.bar']``,
even though the parent ``foo`` package was excluded.
* #795: Bump certifi.
* #719: Suppress decoding errors and instead log a warning
when metadata cannot be decoded.
* #790: In MSVC monkeypatching, explicitly patch each
function by name in the target module instead of inferring
the module from the function's ``__module__``. Improves
compatibility with other packages that might have previously
patched distutils functions (i.e. NumPy).
* #794: In test command, add installed eggs to PYTHONPATH
when invoking tests so that subprocesses will also have the

* Introduce the (private) ``monkey`` module to encapsulate
the distutils monkeypatching behavior.
* Now use Warehouse by default for
``upload``, patching ``distutils.config.PyPIRCCommand`` to
affect default behavior.
Any config in .pypirc should be updated to replace
https://pypi.python.org/pypi/
with
https://upload.pypi.org/legacy/
Similarly, any passwords stored in the keyring should be
updated to use this new value for "system".
The ``upload_docs`` command will continue to use the python.org
site, but the command is now deprecated. Users are urged to use
Read The Docs instead.

Hi,
I tried today an upgrade of a fully patched 42.1 system to the current 42.2
beta. No additional repos were active (it was a testing VM anyway), so the
42.1-system was quite lean and clean.
Having the pain of the KMail3 -> Kmail4 migration in mind, I was interested if
the migration of the KMail accounts works.
Upgrade was via zypper dup
The result was quite positive: Except that the shutdown via the KDE Menu was
not possible, the system remained reactive and could be shut down via command
line.
KMail accounts were working as well, but I was quite surprised to see that
KMail is still in version 4.14.10. Is 5.x not the latest version?
As well, we have around 250 packages that are downgraded compared to the
current patched 42.1 (list can be provided is someone is interested). Will we
see this change in RC1?
Cheers
Axel
