Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers,
The last week has been an interesting one: we can produly talk of
Tumbleweed to be rolling smooth this week: there has been one release
published per day (since 0521 so far up to 0528). This is the longest
streak we had, as far as I remember.
Yet, I have some trouble to find 'exciting' changes in those
snapshots. They are all minor version updates, which on their own are
certainly important for some users. But 'buzzing' about them is
difficult.
Nevertheless, let me try to give it a try, and see what we got:
* Linux kernel 4.0.4: bugfix release
* Timezone 2015d (mostly interesting for Egypt)
* On new installs, the firewall service will be auto-enabled
* Apache2: access_compat now built as shared and disabled by default.
Outlook for the coming days:
* hplip: Disabled build for parallel port because parallel port support
was disabled by default by upstream HPLIP at least since 2011 and is
deprecated by upstream HPLIP since 2013. This will be part of 0529+
* The KDE Team submitted Plasma 5.3.1 bugfixes, which will be part of
0529+ snapshots (checked in this morning).
* GCC 5 is making progress: For packages up to ring2 (full DVD), we
are down to 10 build failures. (gsl, java (x2) kbuild, ksh,
libkolabxml, llvm, powerdevil5, python-cffi & qemu)
* We have kde3 packages failing to build for 3 weeks without any
reaction. If nobody steps up to maintain this, I will file delete
requests (notice mails went to the maintainers already).
Special things to note:
* Lately we see an increased number of build jobs failing with kernel
crashes on the XEN hosts. The reason for this is not yet known.

Hello list,
the recent-ish upgrade to Plasma 5/KF5 worked pretty well overall, apart
from some minor problems (i3wm doesn't like ksshaskpass5, nothing
major). However, since that update, Konsole has a very noticable delay
when starting it, generally 1.3s++, with a wait time that sometimes
takes up 3s total.
Little of that time is spent either in user or system, as per time:
sh-4.3$ time konsole

It seems like most of the time is spent waiting for some sort of socket,
at least if I understand strace correctly (I have little experience with
it).
The delay is just about long enough to be noticable, and thus gets
annoying with repeated use. This is certainly something that happened
with the upgrade to KF5, as I never noticed any problem before.
Does anybody experience similar problems?
All the best,
Peter

variables before attempting to unset a function by that name.

A locale with a long name can trigger a buffer overflow and core dump. This
applies on systems that do not have locale_charset in libc, are not using
GNU libiconv, and are not using the libintl that ships with bash in lib/intl.
- Add upstream patch bash43-036
When evaluating and setting integer variables, and the assignment fails to
create a variable (for example, when performing an operation on an array
variable with an invalid subscript), bash attempts to dereference a null
pointer, causing a segmentation violation.
- Add upstream patch bash43-037
If an associative array uses `@' or `*' as a subscript, `declare -p' produces
output that cannot be reused as input.
- Add upstream patch bash43-038
There are a number of instances where `time' is not recognized as a reserved
word when the shell grammar says it should be.

With the latest update from Tumbleweed the machine crashes in drm_radeon
or drm_kvm_helper (if I could glean these correctly) with a recursive
page fault when the boot process tries to initialize the radeon module.
This happened before systemd switched the journal to disk, so I can't
look at any logs. I can still boot with the 4.0.1 kernel on that
installation although I'm currently having trouble getting a stable X
display past the kdm screen. That happened before with this card, an
RV350, and seems to be related to the pixel clock PLL not locking.

Achim.

Version update (1.13.1 -> 1.13.2)
Subpackages: krb5-client krb5-devel
- Drop libverto and libverto-libev Requires from the -server
package: those package names don't exist and the shared libs
are pulled in automatically.
- Unconditionally buildrequire libverto-devel: krb5-mini also
depends on it.
- pre_checkin.sh aligned changes between krb5/krb5-mini
- added krb5.keyring
- update to krb5 1.13.2
- DES transition
==============
The Data Encryption Standard (DES) is widely recognized as weak. The
krb5-1.7 release contains measures to encourage sites to migrate away
- From using single-DES cryptosystems. Among these is a configuration
variable that enables "weak" enctypes, which defaults to "false"
beginning with krb5-1.8.
Major changes in 1.13.2 (2015-05-08)
This is a bug fix release.
* Fix a minor vulnerability in krb5_read_message, which is primarily
used in the BSD-derived kcmd suite of applications. [CVE-2014-5355]
* Fix a bypass of requires_preauth in KDCs that have PKINIT enabled.
[CVE-2015-2694]
* Fix some issues with the LDAP KDC database back end.
* Fix an iteration-related memory leak in the DB2 KDC database back
end.
* Fix issues with some less-used kadm5.acl functionality.
* Improve documentation.
- Use externally built libverto

- Update port-session-management.diff to latest version, and reapply it
- Update port-session-management.diff, but comment it out - it has
the desired effect for kdelibs4-based applications, but KF5-based
ones aren't restored at all
- Added port-session-management.diff: ports KWin part in the session
management for Plasma 5 (kde#341930).
There are still per application bugs.

Hi,
Those of you running SUSE Linux Enterprise somewhere may know the
problem. openSUSE contains some package that you want on SLE but since
there is no SUSE support for that particular package you won't find it
in any of the official repos either. openSUSE on the other hand contains
that package and maybe the package maintainer(you!?) even builds it in
the Factory devel project for SLE.
Devel projects however may contain lots of other experimental stuff that
you may not want on your SLE installation. So it would be really nice to
have a central project to collect known good community packages built
for SUSE Linux Enterprise server.
That project is here now: openSUSE:Backports:SLE-12!
Getting a package in there is quite easy. Just file a submit request to
openSUSE:Backports:SLE-12. There are basically two rules for packages in
that project:
- packages must not conflict with packages already contained in SLE
- package sources must be accepted also in Factory
More details are explained in the wiki:
https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Backports
The whole thing is still a bit experimental to find out what works
and what not. Nevertheless testers, contributors and feedback in
general welcome!

I'm new to openQA. I have devoured and digested the openQA docs: Getting Started, Installing, Writing Tests, etc. I have openQA installed and running on an openSUSE 13.2 box. From the “Getting Started” documentation I ran the “/usr/share/openqa/script/fetchneedles” script that downloaded the openSUSE tests and needles and loaded the “/var/lib/openqa/tests/opensuse/templates” file. From the “Getting Started” document under sub-heading “Adding a new ISO to test” I followed the example there to the test.
But what I am really interested in is running just the “...opensuse/tests/x11regressions/firefox” tests. How can I manually run this subset? Is there a way via the client command to tell it to just run a specific set of tests? Or how exactly is this done?
There is a main.pm file in the opensuse/ directory. This seems to be the entry point for running the tests. Do I modify this file to control which tests are run, which are not by setting various variables?
There is so much that seems vague especially to a newbie. The docs should be updated to eliminate any confusion.
Thank you for any help you can give.

There is still no hardware available where I could test anything
so I'm currently not wasting time to figure out how to just get
something compiled.
If you'd like to help with this that would be great. I'd
add offloading sub-packages to the gcc package (on selected
host architectures only) and basically compile & install
gcc multiple times. It's going to be interesting (eventually)
to not mess up the already complicated spec file too much...
Another approach would be to compile the offload compilers
separately via the existing cross-spec.in machinery, adding
another "variant". That would be more friendly to factory
bootstrap times.
We can add
--enable-offload-targets=x86_64-intelmicemul-linux-gnu=$install_dir/usr
to the main compiler (on some host architectures), but I'd prefer
to install the offload compiler beyond %{libsubdir}.
Richard.
