[opensuse-factory] Window focusing in GNOME

Hi! I noticed this while using YaST to set up my printer on 11.3-RC1 today, but it seems to be there in 11.2 too. No matter if I minimise the window any number of times, it would restore itself and become the focused window every time it wanted to alert me about something or every time it completed doing something. For example, have YaST pkg manager install something, and minimise it. When the installation is done and pkg manager switches to running SuSEconfig, it jumps back to focus. Really irritating if one is working on something and this keeps happening. I am not sure this is only with YaST apps though I do not see something like this happening in KDE. The metacity settings in gconf-editor are set thus: focus_mode:click, and auto_focus:off. Is there something that can be done to fix this. This is really a bug, and so I can report it to bugzilla if so required. [opensuse-factory] systemtap anyone?

Dear group, I cannot get simple systemtap scripts running. I have 11.3 RC1 with the default kernel running. and the packages kernel-default-debuginfo and kernel-default-devel packages installed. If I run stap on a probe as simple as probe vfs.read { printf("read performed\n"); exit() } it fails on pass 2 with WARNING: cannot find module kernel debuginfo: No DWARF information found semantic error: no match while resolving probe point kernel.function("vfs_read") Of course the kernel has a vfs_read() and I can get its address with grep vfs_read /proc/kallsyms even if the kernel-default-debuginfo package is not installed. Does that mean that the 11.3 kernel debug info package is inconsistent? Is there anyone running systemtap on 11.3? Does openSuse any testing on the systemtap package? Am I just too stupid? I hope the latter is the case and someone could give me some direction. [opensuse-factory] 11.3 M6 live CDs - bootup time comparison

Hi, granted, it's not a very sophisticated or scientificly relevant observation, but I thought I'd share this with you, since the live CDs are likely the first thing a new user is going to try out before he decides which Linux distribution or desktop environment he'll choose. I measured the times it takes the current 11.3 M6 live systems to boot up in both VirtualBox (virtualbox-ose-3.1.4-106.2.i586) and qemu-kvm (kvm-0.11.0-4.5.2.i586) on my Thinkpad T61 (Intel Core2 Duo T8300(a)2.40GHz, 4GB RAM, running openSUSE 11.2, 32bit). I used the ISO images directly, no CD-ROM drive is involved here. I used a stop watch to measure the time from the point at which GRUB loads the kernel until the desktop is usable and fully loaded. Both virtual machines were configured to use 1GB of RAM. Out of curiosity, I also included the latest Ubuntu 10.04 release for comparison. Can anybody repeat my observation that the GNOME live-CD is much slower than the KDE one? I would have actually expected it the other way around. What also surprised me was the difference between VirtualBox and KVM. From a "first impression" perspective, anything above 2:30 minutes feels like a very long time, especially if there is no visual feedback about what's going on - the GNOME bootup spends a lot of time in displaying a black screen with a busy cursor... [opensuse-factory] mounting devices from an application

Hello, Running 11.3 RC1, I have an external USB 1.5To disk I use for video holding. I also use it for say k3b temporary holding Bluray images. But if the disk is not mounted, when k3b launch it don't find is (it's connected) I have to use the plasmoid or dolphin to mount it before I can use it. Is that the desired feature? This new wallpaper seems to not work correctly as well as not be pleasant to look at. It is cute but why do we need it. Black borders 1. It leaves small rectangular boxes with print from something that was moved from that point, The 2. The Date/Calender when pulled up is only black with 3 very tiny squares. Using the "Digital Clock Setting" changed the image - however it is still incorrect. 3 The left hand area where the icons are lacks contrast on the side bar used for adjustment. [opensuse-factory] Splashy breaks up during the boot process on openSUSE 11.3 RC1

Hi all, The first splash screen with a progress bar appears for a split second. The goes to black. Then appears again. Is there any way to have the splash screen appear once, show the entire boot process "with the progress bar" and fade out to the desktop? Right now it appears that it either incomplete or broken. [opensuse-factory] GIMP splash screen not branded

The GIMP splash-screen in RC1 still uses branding from the 11.2 release, which does not fit in with the much brighter colours of the 11.3 environment.
