Hey Group; SuSE 10.3 Beta2 I use runlevel 3 just for info. I have recently had a problem with my printer which was found readily by Yast2. The problem is that every time I go to print I needed to run Yast2. I think I have found the problem. In /etc/init.d/rc3.d there is mentioned in the README a S20lpd linked to ../lpd. But there is no ../lpd script. Your first problem is that you are using beta3. :( There were some problems with the install, beta 3 plus clean that up some. RC1 seems to be working ok. I haven't done tons of testing on it yet, but haven't run into any problems. Did a few amount on beta3 plus and that seemed to be ok. Note: HVM opensuse guests do not work. [opensuse-factory] corrupted packages in 1-CD KDE RC1

I've tried a clean installation from the 1-CD KDE for 10.3 RC1. Five packages are broken on the CD (classpath, aspell, aspell-en, cyrus-sasl, amarok). Somebody else must've run into this, but I just can't find the bugzilla report. Told the install routine to ignore those 5 problems, but then I hit this error: "The root password could not be set. You might not be able to log in. Try setting it again? [Yes/No]" Can't do anything that requires root password. 1. During installation 'add online repositories before installation' should NOT in my opinion be the default. It causes more trouble than it's worth and takes far too long to complete. Adding repositories after installation is a much faster and cleaner process. 2. The installation process did not ask for or set the network Default Gateway. 3. Literally hundreds of the following message had to be acknowledged. 'Patch Process Callback nn' 4. [opensuse-factory] couldn't launch gnome-settings-daemon after update to RC1

I managed to update from 10.2 to 10.3 RC1, now, every time I log in a get an error that the gnome-settings-daemon cannot start. I attached an screenshot. By the way, I noticed that some kde packages was installed, even though I had installed just gnome (I think there are packages from kde3base, ksysguard, kconsole, etc)

According to https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=224462 , EVMS installation was disabled in 10.2 and was to be reenabled in 10.3. I'd like to try it in RC1, but it is apparently still not enabled. [opensuse-factory] 10.3 RC1 installation - (Second) hard disc seen as wrong size

Trying to do a 'new installation' of 10.3 RC1 on my primary test machine, for these tests I use a second 10GB HD sdb (first HD sda has 10.2 and 'another' OS on it). First time round, installer complained it couldn't read partition table (which was created a few weeks ago by a 10.3 Beta installation) - attempting to select manually using 'expert partitioning' YaST informed me it was only 4.3GB Exit & re-boot, BIOS also says 4.3G! so power off and on again and it's back to 10G (which is what it IS). Try again after using fdisk to delete partitions - no complaint from YaST but we're back to 4.3G. I'm trying to continue but suspect that once power is cycled it will be very unhappy. 4.3GB looks suspiciously like 2**32 bytes - maybe a bug where something uses ulong where it needs more bits? [opensuse-factory] Two Yast sessions in RC1

Hi,ç I don't know how, but the chair-keyboard interface got two yast sessions running, both trying an online update, and both failing complaining there was another program using the database. So far, "normal". The problem was trying to kill them both. One of them had to be forced kill, and revived: but with no display window in kde. I could see in top a "y2base" that I had to kill, but when I tried top complained there was no such pid; true enough, the pid had changed. Then I noticed that on almost each top refresh (2") the PID changed. Finally, via "ps afx" I discovered it's parent, yastonlinesomething, and killed that. Yast is running now alright. So... couldn't yast-online figure another yast-online was already running before starting, and exit with an informative message box? Now it discovers the problems when it fails to grab the rpm database, it seems. -- Cheers, Carlos E. R. [opensuse-factory] Some issues after resume + laptop too loud

Hi, I have some troubles with suspend/resume on 10.3 RC1. 1.) Sometimes sound doesn't work after resume. Intel AC97 codec, module snd_intel8x0. Restart ALSA doesn't work for me, I have to run alsaconf to detect soundcard and restart sound. 2.) Cookies don't work in Konqueror after resume. I have to restart whole KDE. 3.) As I mentioned in discussion on OpenSUSE news site, my laptop is too loud with running 10.3 compared to 10.1 and Kubuntu Feisty. But temperature is even lower. It is Pentium-M running with dynamic CPU freq policy and ATI X700 set to low power (aticonfig --set-powerstate=1) but ventilator is still running. I'll try powertop in Kubuntu to compare it with 10.3. I was wondering about the status of the 3d-blob kmps. Are some available for testing somewhere? Can they be expected to be ready on release day? [opensuse-factory] Azureus/Java, Beta3, RC1

Azureus starts fine but dies or collapses immediately. Same behaviour when launched from KDE GUI or konsole. No error messages. I suspected Java issue and I found out that Java seems to be OK in Konqueror, but not working in Firefox. Hi everyone! So far, RC1 looks pretty good. There are just a few things that caught my attention: - What happened to the media check? When I installed from DVD I was not asked if I wanted to check the installation media. Is this a bug or a feature? I know it was there before... - Online update is giving a number of people a headache that installed completely offline, see bug #308832. It was filed for beta3, but it is still not working properly in RC1. - What happened to the German release notes? I have release notes in lots of languages, but the German version is not in the rpm. When trying out alphas and betas, I've finally gotten used to just burning the first 40Mb of the DVD (or the first CD-iso). I've installed nv driver and run sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia But the graphics card is recognized as "Framebuffer vesa". lenove thinkpad t61p's graphics cards is nvidia quadro 740m.

I couldn't update an opensuse 10.2 with 10.3 RC1 because an unresolvable dependency resolution timeout What is this??? Is there a way to force updating anyway? IMO, if there's a package conflict, yast can't resolve it, ok, just leave it, who cares, it will not work anyway. Or the package doesn't exist on any repository, it has no conflict, why want to remove it?, just leave it. Hi, LDAP login fails for me on 10.3, RC1. from /var/log/messages i get this: Sep 21 23:02:46 norbert nscd: nss_ldap: failed to bind to LDAP server ldap://10.0.0.3: Can't contact LDAP server But that does noe help me that much. I tried to install Wireshark, but can not find it in yast or the build service. The LDAP login works from my other 10.2 machies. There are no problems indicated on the server log (also a 10.2 machine) I would appreciate if there are anyone else that know more of LDAP than me that can guide me in the right direction to solve this issue. [opensuse-factory] codecs in 10.3?

Hello, Just finished installing RC1 on PPC. I remembered to see something like 'opensuse-codecs-installer' in changelog, so tried to check, if it means proper mp3 support in 10.3. First experience: I installed GNOME for a test. First tried banshee, did not start. Then totem, but the same. Starting them from the command line shows an ugly loud crash for both applications. Second: installed KDE, as I usually do. Opened the mp3 file with kaffeine. First I got a dialog box, if I want to install a suitable codec. When answering 'yes', I got two pages opened, one for mp3 and a second one for xvid. Both of them explained that I wanted to open an unsupported media file, but nothing more. Question: what is the status of codec support? Do I see useless pages, because no content is yet there, or because PPC is not supported? The Fluendo codecs only target GStreamer.
