[opensuse-factory] Upgrade from "openSUSE 10.3 (i586) Beta2" to 10.3 possible?

At least on X86-64 X-Server dies with "Signal 11" after applying the mandantory updates. [opensuse-factory] Build (rpm) and older Distributions ?

Hello, can't I find the correct syntax, or is it not possible, any longer, to build a package for older distributions ? With the build from 10.3 and from Repositories (10.2) I can't build a package for SUSE 10.2. [opensuse-factory] openSuse 10.3 dual boot Solaris 10 usf

Hey Group; I rec. a free version of Solaris 10 on DVD. I was in hopes I could dual boot it and SuSE. Primarily I will use SuSE but would like to try vmware or the like as a test. I have tried Sid's suggestion "mount -t usf usftype=sunx86 /dev/sda1 /mnt/sda1" (sda1 is correct). Has anyone gotten this to work? I did get Solaris to boot before loading SuSE 10.3 GM. [opensuse-factory] Ati propietary drivers will not install with kernel 2.6.23.1-6-default

Hello, My name is Jan Fredrik Stoveland, and I am a masters student at the University of Oslo writing a thesis on firm-sponsored open source communities. openSUSE is the main case for the study. I have been granted permission to send you this email by Andreas Jaeger and Martin Lasarch, and I hope you do not mind receiving it. I would like to ask all of the members of the this mailinglist to participate in a brief, anonymous electronic survey targeted at active contributors in the openSUSE community. The research is funded by the University, and is independent of any commercial interests. The link to the survey is here: https://nettskjema.uio.no/answer.html?fid=38823&lang=en I have selected these mailinglists as the main community indicator: project, factory, buildservice, wiki and translation. It is of great importance to get valid answers from as many of you as possible. The questions in the survey concern your current engagement in the openSUSE community, your reasons for participating in the community and your affiliation with Novell. I expect the survey will take you 10 minutes to complete, unless you find any questions difficult to answer. What do you get in return for doing this? The results from the survey will be posted to the list within a month, and the thesis with other interesting findings about your community will be published around May next year. Hopefully this will be of interest to you. But first of all I hope you will contribute for the sake of research itself. Not too much academic research has been done on communities that are facilitated by partially-proprietary companies like Novell. Furthermore, I would like to do an in depth interview on the phone with a few of you to get more detailed answers. I will randomly select about 6 people to talk to. [opensuse-factory] Zypper upadtes kernel packages instead of installing it

I noticed yesterday that Zypper updated kernel packages instead of installing it. Meaning, in case we hang up with non bootable system, we can't boot the system with older kernel. Is this a normal behavior Zypper or it is a bug? Cheers! -- Igor Jagec

[opensuse-factory] Network problem

Hey Group; I have tracked a problem down concerning the abillity to ping but not be able to go through the DNS lookup. This is a Yast2 problem. Yast2>Network Devices>Network Card fails to correctly write the broadcast and netmask correctly afte being set and saved SuSE 10.3 GM not using DHCP and fiewall, IPV6 all off ifconfig shows the problem and ifcfg-eth# is the file that is being written incorrectly. [opensuse-factory] Any known bugs in a in mixed IDE/SATA environment on 10.3?

Hello all I just put a Promise Technology SATA 300 TX2plus card back in my computer in order to use the new Seagate ST31000340NS Barracuda ES.2 1TB SATA 7200RPM hard drive that I bought. openSUSE recognized the new drive when I booted up and I ran yast2 and formated it ext3 (931 Go) with no problems The new Seagate ST31000340NS Barracuda ES.2 1TB tested OK with hdparm (75.74 MB/sec) but when I try to copy files (say 10 Go +) from a Seagate ST3750640A 750 Go PATA hard drive to the new Seagate ST31000340NS Barracuda ES.2 sata drive running off the Promise Technology SATA 300 TX2plus card my computer freezes up after a few minutes. The motherboard is an old Tyan Tiger MPX (S2466). The board uses DDR PC2700 • CL=2.5 • Registered • ECC memory from Crucial. I have 4 sticks of RAM (3 x 1 Go + 1 256 Mo) I first thought that it was a RAM problem but after pulling various sticks of RAM off the board and trying different combinaisons and re running the copy test the computer still freezes up after a few minutes.... Don't know what to think now. I am planning on re installing openSUSE 10.2 and re running the same tests but I would like to know if anyone else has had any similar problems. All comments or thoughts weclome. My sysprof builds in autobuild started failing with: /usr/src/packages/BUILD/sysprof-1.0.8/obj/debug/sysprof-module.c:45:6: warning: "CONFIG_PROFILING" is not defined /usr/src/packages/BUILD/sysprof-1.0.8/obj/debug/sysprof-module.c:46:3: error: #error Sysprof needs a kernel with profiling support compiled in.
