Re: [suse-linux-uk-schools] A million questions...
Lots of questions...
Eep :)
Star Office - where is it? How do you install it? I couldn't see anything on YAST
It's under the series 'PAY' - commercial software You can install it from YaST, and then run /opt/Office51/bin/setup as each user who wants to use it
Wordperfect - where is it? How do you install it? (Actually someone installed this for me - no idea how they managed it..... but it won't print to my HP) VNC (server ...and client)? - where is it? How do you install it?
Ummm, ISTR that cos of the way Corel have done it, the RPM (again in PAY) only installs the install binaries (making no comment on the sensibility of Corel's install method, but...) So, you want to install it, you need to run /usr/lib/wp8/Runme having read linux.corel.com to check up on the security issues relating to WP8...
If you're running Xserver - and logged on, how do you 'connect' to another Linux box and run an Xsession with that box - without loosing your own local connection. I assume there must be Telnet and XDM methods?
Perhaps you could clarify what exactly you want to do? You want the other Linux box to act as a 'dumb' X terminal for your main Linux box?
I would like to run a citrix client (downloadable from citrix as a tar or zip or something - but not an rpm as far as I can tell). Where do I put it?
You put it wherever you want to, but normally, you put 'local' software (ie software that you, the local admin has installed) under /usr/local or you could put it somewhere like /opt/citrix
And what do I do to unzip untar it? And how do I 'run' it?
Assuming the file extension is .tgz ot .tar.gz use tar xvfz filename If you want to run it (and why wouldn't you? ;) ) there should be a readme in the tarball telling you how to, otherwise you'd need to contact Citrix
And WINE - where is it and how do I get it working? And if I copy (OK I'll get a licence if it stays there) an exe file - how do I run it via WINE? Can I make .exe extenstions automatically execute via WINE?
WINE is under the series 'EMU' - emulators For info on using it, try wine --help or man wine J -- James Ogley, SuSE Linux UK Ltd - +44 (0) 20 8 387 4088 @ Work: ogley@suse.co.uk www.suse.co.uk @ Home: james@rubberturnip.org.uk www.rubberturnip.org.uk ICQ: 57374251 Slashdot: riggwelter (84180)
