
And the reason it would / wouldn't work on a Windows machine would be java related as well - if the app has been tested in Redhat 8 it will be compatible with Sun's JVM, but might not work on a Windows machine with MS's JVM. There are also subtle differences in the way different Java's from Sun handle (for example) threads. I have had no problem using Java client / server software with mixed platforms per se, the problems have been related to the Java platform. The only possible problems would be which version and version number of the Java runtime is on your chosen platform, or which Java extensions have been used. That may be why they mentioned Redhat 8.
