Initialisation ext3 partition on /
Hi folks, I have mounted / on an ext3 partition (SuSE 7.3) and every time I boot it does a file system check. I know the problem is with an initialisation script and is due to a typing error. Can anyone enlighten me? I can't find the correction on SuSE's site and my email to support was subject of an auto-reply but the robot doesn't seem able to provide an answer only a ticket number! Has anyone with a thinkpad found the mwavemd module loaded onto their system from the SuSE 7 series distributions? Mine says it can't find the module major-10-219. It's in modules.conf but locate and find don't locate or find it either. -- Best wishes, Derek
Hello Derek, [..elided..]
Has anyone with a thinkpad found the mwavemd module loaded onto their system from the SuSE 7 series distributions? Mine says it can't find the module major-10-219. It's in modules.conf but locate and find don't locate or find it either.
Just because you have an entry in "/etc/modules.conf" (often symlinked to "/etc/conf.modules") it does not mean that it is going to load. All loadable kernel modules are loaded from the location: /lib/modules/[kernel-version]/ e.g.: /lib/modules/2.2.18/ then, the desired module is loaded thus: insmod /lib/modules/[kernel-version]/my_file.o to check that it has loaded, type: insmod and you'll get a list of loaded devices. To unload a device, type: rmmod /file Try it by hand, and if it works, I can help you tweak the startup scripts. You have to use an alias in modules.conf eg. I've got a Lucent modem on my Thinkpad so I've got an entry: alias char-major-62 lt_serial This will show your current setup: # modprobe -c If it doesn't show up there you'll have to do a Google/Deja search & find out the real name of the module. BTW, I just compiled 2.4.17 and found that all the modules were placed in a dir not searched by modprobe so that may or may not be a problem also. -- Frank *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Boroughbridge. This is a known problem. This may help: http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/ext3_rootfs_73.html By the way - there are some problems with support in Germany at the moment - please feel free to phone me (number below). On Sun, 20 Jan 2002, Derek Harding wrote:
