Had similar problems on 9.1 (2.6.5-7.57) - upgrading to 2.6.5-7.111 resolved the problem.

Well, there's a clue. Do you have cdrdao installed?

It's more a question of what I'm looking for. What is the output of the
command: "uname -r". Indeed, if it is a 2.6 kernel, then cdrecording is
iffy unless it is of a certain version.
The other option is permissions, but I haven't enough information to
