You need to put the IP address and port number into the FTP proxy setting of your software. Whatever that might be... -- Mark Evans St. Peter's CofE High School Phone: +44 1392 204764 X109 Fax: +44 1392 204763

I think you might also need to make sure that your FTP client can use FTP over an HTTP proxy. From memory, Squid will speak FTP on the 'outside' but not on the 'inside'. Most browsers will support FTP over an HTTP proxy; I don't know about dedicated FTP client software. HTH, Michael

Having played around with 3 FTP clients and not getting any of them to work but managing FTP through the browser I guess it is a lack of a place to put the proxy settings that are upsetting my efforts. has anyone therefore done this. I'm also looking to set up some web cams and will need a piece of software that will give be the correct ftp settings ot failing that can someone recommend some Linux software to do the same job thanks James Carter

It may just be me, but I can't work out from that description what you're actually trying to do with the web cams. How do you use ftp to access a web cam? Michael

I didn't understand that bit either. Unless they have something like a webcam running on a windows machine which wants to automatically upload to some remote webserver... As an aside I'm interested in finding out about use of webcams. Especially the use of multi capture cards such as on page 485 of the CPC catalogue. Unfortunatly the details only mention usage with Windows (and omit details of suitable cameras.) -- Mark Evans St. Peter's CofE High School Phone: +44 1392 204764 X109 Fax: +44 1392 204763

The webcam software uses inbuilt ftp to update the image!
