FW: [suse-linux-uk-schools] "The Classroom of the Future"
Dear all I have passed on the attached email and replies to the Classroom of the Future team at the DfEE. Becta does offer some information on Open Source for education (http://www.becta.org.uk/technology/infosheets/html/opensource.html). We are happy to take comments to help develop information like this - I can pass them on to the team that produced it. Tim Dumbleton

Last night I attended a DfEE/NGfL meeting entitled "The Classroom of the Future" as a Governor of our local Primary School. This is one of a series of meeting. It was an interesting meeting but seemed mainly targeted at secondary schools. However, there were only four exhibitors; BECTA, BBC, BT and Microsoft. There was no evidence of Open Source even when I questioned the BECTa representative. Was SuSE invited to attend this? It Doesn't look like it from the list of exhibitors in the back of the glossy handout. Is it worth volunteering? I think there are more to come.
Cheers
Paul

hi Tim Becta has got an information sheet on 'Open Source in Education' and it provides a 'balanced' view. Becta were also asked by the DfEE in August 2000 to prepare a briefing on Open Source, and asked to assess the costs involved in its preparation. I would be grateful if you could let the community know the current status of that work and if a response was ever sent to the DfEE. Look forward to a reply :-) Malcolm --------------------------------------- Dr Malcolm Herbert Director, Academic Business Development Red Hat Europe t: +44 1483 734955 m: +44 7720 079845 -------------------------------------- "To err is human, but to really foul things up you need a computer" Farmers Weekly, 1977 On Friday 16 February 2001 14:43, Timothy Dumbleton wrote:
