Miles, I have made a start on this sort of thing. Take a look at my page: www.openi.org I've only just started putting it together, so theres not much to see yet. Richard richard@tortoise.demon.co.uk

It looks good and I suppose you might be making your source open, but there doesn't seem much "Open Source" involved in Access or MS SQL Server or Delphi or the platform. We'd have to spend a fortune even to start with your system (note: only 15% of school-owned machines here run Windows). -- Christopher Dawkins, Felsted School, Dunmow, Essex CM6 3JG 01371-820527 or 07798 636725 cchd@felsted.essex.sch.uk

Yes, I know, but I have to start from where I am. I understand that Borland are set to release a free version of Kylix (Delphi on Linux), for open source development. Although the back end is currently MS-SQL, it would have the advantage that the table structures, constraints and so could be in the public domain. With the commercial MIS databases I've seen, your data is held in a 'black box'. Interbase, is now released as an open source database on Linux, www.ibphoenix.com and I'm also interested in looking at using it for the server. regards Richard richard@tortoise.demon.co.uk
