RE: [suse-linux-uk-schools] Primary School Software
Have a look at Freeduc http://www.ofset.org - which is also the home of gcompris, which is an excellent piece of software. -----Original Message----- From: Martin Rowe To: suse-linux-uk-schools@suse.com Sent: 1/28/03 6:00 PM Subject: Re: [suse-linux-uk-schools] Primary School Software On Tuesday 28 January 2003 1:14 pm, Ron Johnson wrote:
Dear All
We have had 2 linux servers with Linux backups for the past five years working wonderfully
About a year ago I tried out Linux software for use by the children - (me wants Linux users in de classroom)
nearly everything I tried was difficult or plain just didn't work) - I want to try again to see if its any better - any suggestions (obviously not rude ones I'm only primary!)
one group (I've forget who or whom) was trying to produce a cd and presumably there are more sites out there now
I've seen a Knoppix based CD with educational software on it, but can't find the link now (will post if I do find it). Two good packages that my five & nearly-four year old like are tuxpaint and gcompris. I would guess that both are available for SuSE. Tuxpaint is a drawing package specifically aimed at young kids, and my two have no pronblem using it. GCompris is a launcher for a whole raft of educational software - reading, writing, maths, puzzles, keyboard & mouse skills. It's very actively maintained and seems to have more in it every time I look.
