RE: [suse-linux-uk-schools] Questionnaire design and implementation
Hi This is somewhat more than you've asked for, but does satisfy your criteria, but have you looked at Moodle? http://moodle.org Cheers Chris -----Original Message----- From: Miles Berry [mailto:mberry@st-ives.surrey.sch.uk] Sent: Sat 11/13/2004 7:52 AM To: suse-linux-uk-schools@suse.com Cc: Subject: [suse-linux-uk-schools] Questionnaire design and implementation Is anyone on this list aware of any open source packages to do questionnaire design and implementation, ideally in a LAMP environment (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP etc), with export of results in a spreadsheet? I'm aware that it's not too bad to code something like this by hand, but finding the time to do that is another matter! I'm looking for something like http://www.surveymonkey.com/ that we could run on our own server. Thanks Chris, We're piloting Moodle this term and things are going very well indeed. I'm writing it up for an MBA dissertation and want to do some comparisons on the use of VLEs as knowledge management tools in schools, hence my present interest in a survey tool. Moodle's questionnaire tool would be one possibility, but a) it doesn't seem very flexible wrt to question type and b) I would prefer to avoid a Moodle bias in this particular survey. -- Miles Berry Deputy Head St Ives School Haslemere www.stiveshaslemere.com Chris Puttick wrote:

As you say, time to implement is the bind! Not sure how sophisticated you need to be but have you seen 'hot potatoes'. I think that this has a survey module. A quick search found http://www.freeonlinesurveys.com/ , failing that a simple emailed form might do, and use a WP/SS macro to extract the data from the returned email. I've done this many times in the past, but is nowhere as neat and labour saving as the LAMP option. If it's just a page or so then I'm sure that one of us could help with the PHP & database creation.
