Kevin, I am sorry , we don't have any "official" disks yet. We will certainly be looking to have some made soon. we still have some "pattern" and categorization work to do before we can ask for those to be made. Our project is still young , but great things are happening. ;) JT Kevin J. wrote:
Charlotte is quite a distance from Hilton Head, but I think you'll find the Charleston LUG to be as vibrant as any you've come across before.
Thanks for the link and the offer of wiki support as well. The FLPC program is not an officially registered non-profit, but Doug has offered to help us file the proper paperwork.
If you could get me some Edu-CD disks to hand out at future events, however, that would be excellent. I'm planning to burn a few copies tonight, but won't have enough to do much good by tomorrow morning.
Bob, if you have access to a CD burner and could burn a few copies of the Edu-CD I would greatly appreciate it.
Kevin

Hi Bob and Kevin, I'm glad to be joining such a vibrant community and I hope to be going to these LUG meetings soon. Although isn't Charlotte a few hours from Hilton Head ? ;) I ran a 60 seat installation(an entire elementary school) in NH and I believe there are hundreds of other locations that have been using either k12ltsp or edubuntu for a while. I have been told that my instructions for installing LTSP on NLD9 and SLED10 ( http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/17942.html) have even been used by Novell tech services in California to build a notable amount of classroom servers (30 seats or less) in the San Fransisco area. I can tell you that in Italy a group or branch of the government called "Didasca"( I don't speak Italian) is using the EDU-cd and LTSP as the basis for there new desktop initiative. I don't know if these are the kinds of success stories you need though. JT Kevin J. wrote:
James, I'd like to introduce you to Bob Evans from the Charlotte (NC) LUG. Bob is promoting the use of LTSP in schools around Charlotte and is currently working on a deal to help migrate a Charter school to LTSP. He is excited about the official HP support of the openSUSE Education initiative as that is the one thing needed for this school to make the move. You may be able to offer Bob some guidance and information as this new venture unfolds.
I will be speaking about FLPC at the CharLUG user conference tomorrow morning and this would probably be a great time to discuss the openSUSE Education initiative (or at least what little I know about it:). If you have some LTSP "success stories" that I can share with others, please let me know.
Cheers!

Hey Guys, My friends at Novell and HP have finally made the big move to openly support and use the the openSUSE Edu-CD. This is really a good time to get things moving and to use Novell and HP's official "interest" as a way to show the validity of your efforts. I am looking forward to this spring and all the new friends I expect I will be making in South Carolina. -- James Tremblay openSIS Product Specialist http://www.os4ed.com CNE 3,4,5 MCSE w2k CLE in training Registered Linux user #440182 http://en.opensuse.org/education Hi

Tells most of the story already. From my point of view, I just can say it again: "Thanks to all for your hard work and patience!" With Novell, HP, Linkat, Extis and (very important from my point of view:) more local partners in our "Team" - supporting schools using Linux will be much easier these days. FYI: I'm currently in contact with people inside Novell, people from HP, Jordi from Linkat and people from Extis to "get some balls rolling". It may take some time - but even if it takes years, I think it's really worth to get it done...
